Default, I would recommend dropping the + from your name unless you are staff somewhere that mandates it. Just a little advice biggrin.gif

What's wrong with a +?
Dr Brain - Wed Oct 12, 2005 2:13 pm

It's a binary operator that you're using as a postfix unary operator. Duh.

Back in the days of VIE, during league games, the referee would place a sign next to his name in order so everyone would know who umpires the game, for the ease of the players and staff.
He would be the only person in the match arena to wear a sign.
There were no bots back then, and everything (subs, SCs, etc.) had to be done/authorized via the referee, as such it was important to single him out from the "crowd" of players on the player list.

These days the newbie, ever desiring to look elite as he does, begun misusing this old ritual and whenever one is granted staff powers immediately you'll notice a sign sprung next to his name.
The act of placing a symbol next to your name to denote your moderator status is simply abuse of the status for a goal (bragging) which does not comply to its purpose (assisting the zone).
And since in this age we have bots to regulate organized matches, it is no longer needed as well.

Altogether, it is redundant.
There is no need for staff to make themselves known, aside from that a zone works best for the most part while the staff remain behind the scenes.
If a moderator is needed to be reached there are usually listings of staff (website, news.txt, bot in area, tiles on map) as well as the ?cheater, ?help and other special chat channel commands.
Inquiry in public chat may also be made for obtaining assistance from a moderator.
Today, a moderator cannot be impersonated as any staff can easily authenticate their status, if need be, via the *warn command, which privately dispatch a red-colored message to a player.

Bottom line:
Those who do it, are looking for attention and accolades.
For the most part it will be a newbie.
Sometimes it may be a veteran who is either used to doing this, or is "misinterpreting" his duty as a moderator.
Some zones which prefer their staff being known insist on staff wearing a "budge" at all time (which is just an opening for troubles).
In the end, it is unnecessary and obsolete.
Practicing this only reveals immaturity and misconception.

Despite his age and its inherited immaturity, a bit of wrong ideas/views and generaly things which he has a lot to learn of, he's quite far smarter than you are, spyed.
And between the two of you, his company posses the prospect of being that of an intellectual.
So were I in your place, I would hold on my tongue.
Infact, he could probably teach you a thing or two.

So, Grav, from all the bullshit you posted where you're just trying to look "cool" or intelligent, we can conclude that you'd dislike the fact of using an IRC client which showed the operator status of a user in the channel list?

The '+' is a character allowed in any regular user name on the SSC biller, the relation to staff powers of the user would be a complete misconception.
People who add it because it makes them think their name looks better because of it aren't any different from "newbies" who append it to their name to pretend to be a staff member.
As you stated already, "it is redundant", then why do people even care if someone has a + on his name?
Nobody should relate any value to any symbols in any name, simply because they don't have to mean something.

That was nearly the most ludricous sentence I have ever read.

Grav is always good for a laugh. Besides, several zones still mandate a + at the end of a name. HZ comes to mind.

Confess uses a +. Nuff said.

I agree somewhat with Grav, if you're somebody people will know without you needing to have a + on your name. It seems to me that most + users are relatively new to the game trying to cool. Just being yourself is the best way to go biggrin.gif

Solo, there is a grand difference. The fact that noobies to it to appear as staff could possibly be detrimental to gameplay, and has malicious intent. The fact that I like it at the end of my name is no different from you choosing to put words in your name like 'Solo' or 'Ace'. It's not appended to my name, it's part of my name.

It doesn't make a difference for whoever does it or not, simply because the + has no meaning.
