Post subject: Wireless router?
Hello, im trying to set up my router for my zone, but i ran into problems. In the sticky titled "Generic Router How do", they didnt list how to do vista or wireless. I use wireless, and have a Vista 64 bit Home Premium. This is what shows when i type ipconfig in the command window.

Vista and wireless do not change the basics described in that thread.

192.168.1.102 is your computer's internal IP address. This is the address you should be forwarding packets to.
192.168.1.254 is (probably) your router's IP address. This is the address you connect to with your web browser to configure things.

Mine's 192.168.1.1, so yeah it could be different.

You can check it with by doing this: (I think. I'm in a hotel and not behind a router so I have my own IP. I don't have vista either. Should work though)

1. Go to Start->accessories->Command Prompt
2. Type in "ipconfig" (without quotes) and hit Enter
3. Look to the right to where it says "IP Addreess". That is your computer's IP
4. Look to the right to where it says "Default Gateway". That is your router's IP

Most routers home page is 192.168.1.1, I haven't seen one that has it different. I don't know if you can set it or something. Maybe static? Hm

But with wireless you won't ever get your full connection speed. So you'll probably lag. If you can, get hard wired. It would be the best solution for you.

D-Link's default to 192.168.0.1, while Linksys defaults to 192.168.1.1, and the .254 is in some cases with wireless routers I think. Anyway, just google your router's model and you can get the default IP.
