Recently I threw together a free web hosting web application. It's one of my schemes to give people free stuff and I profit from it. I programmed/designed the whole entire thing (except the flash thing) on my own, all because I can't use CPanel.

It has Google Gears, so you chrome users (or ff users with gears installed) will get some speed advantages.

I'm going to start marketing the 15th and I know I'm forgetting little details I should fix. I need beta testers too to make sure there's no bugs.

Some of you hate me, so that's why I came here. I know you'll find any little detail and rub it in my face (some of you acting like children with ADHD). That's basically what I want you to do, so I can fix all that crap. Tell me what you think, how it looks, how it handles, if you could screw it would you, what could improve and what's wrong with it.

I checked out your site but didn't really understand the concept. Is the only difference to other free hosting that there is a link back to ahobbler.com and context-relative text advertising that you can choose to place?
Are users totally free in placing these advertisements? If they have to place the advertisements on their own they can hide them with other HTML. I wonder what you have in mind to prevent such situations.

Have you also thought about why people should choose your hosting instead of totally free (advertisement-free) hosting (there are lots of those hosts available).

I was looking for example websites to see how the advertisements would be placed and how it would look. The examples didn't really give a good impression though. Most of them are test pages or totally going against your concept. One may be even directed against you personally?

I'm a bit confused with your "What you get with Ahobbler" list:

Users can register a subdomain for each website while they can also register unlimited normal domains and subdomains but only the subdomains are free. While you can register unlimited subdomains and domains they can only register 10 websites. WTF?

P.S. You seem to use different font styles in your website (Arial, Times New Roman). This gives me a somewhat clumsy impression. You should try to use one font or two that really match well together. Maybe it's just me because I hate to see Times New Roman in websites

To answer some of your questions.

Yes, the user has complete control of where the ad goes. He can choose to have it structurally above or below the content, and use css (which we provide) to make it to the left or right. If the user knows css, he could even use an absolute positioning to place it inside the content somewhere.

I've already wrote the whole system, it's a mass of if statements on what the setting comes out from the database. I can't give real details on how it works due to security reasons. The only thing I'm not preventing, yet anyways, is to hide the ad block with css or javascript. I'm working a filtering system right now, but until we get over 50 people it won't be that hard to check.

My campaign on marketing the site is the idea, that unlike any other free web hosting, you have control of ads. You have freedoms to choose where they go and what they look like, it's you're site and I think it should be that way. Later I'll add an upgrade feature to be ad free for $1.99/mo.

Those to sites you linked to are two of my friends tryign it out. Zach is my best friend messing we me, he will also me helping me market this. The other one is some really fat kid that annoys most people. Everyone gets 45 days ad free, so there's no one who will have any yet. If you want, I'll change my test page blah-er.ahobbler.com to show some ads to give you an example.

I'm also not the one who is selling the domains. I am going to just link to dyndns.com and have people sign up for domains there, using webhop cloaking. The 10 website thing is actually to have the ability to register 10 websites per account. It used to be five, but I decided 10 would look better. Most people will only sign up to host one site, but I'm just giving them freedom to have more than one website assigned with the same account. Any one having over 10 sites and their admin will look full. If you have any reason to have more than 10 different websites, you can sign up for multiple accounts. It's just basically there to tell the user they can have more than one site and to limit the user from making their admin pages too long.

I hate new times roman too, I'm messing around the the text stylings still.

there are lots of sites that don't require adds, like my site http://www.a3site.66ghz.com (i kinda abondoned it :\ got nothing to post but just have it )

I hate to say it, but with how easy it is to register a Domain and Webserver, as well as how cheap they are, it just makes more sense to for someone to buy their own. I am quite sure that the "freewebhosting" sites are dead. Especially with Myspace, Facebook, Livejournal and the countless other social networking sites giving people what they need anyway.

I mean, why the hell would I set up a site with you if I intend to make money off of it? Why would I bother? I'd just buy my own serverspace, my own domain, and then get 100% of the profit after I pay my dues.

Your logic just isn't there.

Furthermore if I hate you, there is no way in fuck I'm going to let you profit off of my work.

Edit: Also, are you using a webserver off-site, or are you using a server you personally set up? Is it established in your house? Do you have all the bullshit you need to be official so that way I'm not finding myself without access to my webserver when the Government shuts your ass down, and takes your server? What is your connection speed, if it's not hosted off site, what experience do you have with maintaining webservers, if any? If you're using an offsite server do they know you're leasing out your space? Do you have their expressed permission to do this?

It's a server hosted by host monster, so it's a xeon with I'm sure it's at least T1. If I was hosting it on my own server at my house, I would have just set up CPanel, but my home connection is too slow for now. As you know, you can't set up CPanel if you're server runs on CPanel, so I entirely coded a fee web host application just because of that reason. I do tell people, if they want no-ads and a lot of cool features, I refer them to Hostmonster. If they sign up, I receive commission.

I did already take in consideration with all the social network sites and cheap hosting sites. I'm sure a few people will sign up for the service, like if it's a kid you doesn't have any money, and use my service. If they even want a site with no ads, it'll be only $2 a month. This is just going to be one of my web applications I'm working on, so it's just a first step in receiving some income.

I'm also working on a mail client web application, if you want to check that out, it's http://www.blahertech.org/dev/mail. I'm also going to be making a free file host to store images, flash movies and videos for free.

It's a start.

And you dance all around: Does your Server-Host know what you're doing? Because a lot of hosts don't endorse, or approve of what you're talking about doing.

Yea, they're fine with it. I talked with a representative. In fact, they're happy I'm doing it because I'm referring my customers to them if they need full web hosting, which means more money for the both of us.

Now that I finally have power back after a week and I'm 18, I can start advertising the site.
