Post subject: Continuum Through SOCKS5 Proxy Server
Does it actually work? On my local machine, I am tunneling port xxxx through an SSH-2 connection to a remote server and have set up up the proxy connection to use server 127.0.0.1, port xxxx. When I configure Firefox to use a SOCKS5 proxy server in this manner, it works. When I try to do this with Continuum, I get:
Code: Show/Hide
SOCKS error 4 (00000201)
Check proxy configuration

Any ideas? Anyone have experience with this, perhaps with a real SOCK5 proxy server?

If you want to run Continuum through something other than a basic connection, I personally think it would be much easier to just do something like http tunneling or tunneling through some VPS for your entire connection, rather than setting up Continuum by itself. At least, it was easier for me. But that could be because I was doing Continuum socks wrong.

AD probably means VPN. Well, I'd say try a SOCKS4 proxy for Continuum.

This is something of a moot point now, as I've gotten the college that I'm a guest at to agree to open the ports of the zones I play (though they haven't done it yet).

I have a VPN connection to my home institution, but this is less than ideal since England --> California --> SSCC is a long and convoluted trip. My ping is about 250ms with this method.

I'll give other methods a try though, just for fun.

Lol, yeah. I sat there and looked at that for a second trying to figure out if I needed an S or and N.

Anyway, as for your VPN, my friend lives in Scotland, and I think he pays something like 10$ or 20$ a month for a server down in... well, either Germany, or Iceland, I forget which he said... either way, he said he gets a great connection through it, good enough to use torrents and play games off of STEAM(probably NOT at the same time). You may be interested in looking into something like that.

Try something like your freedom. Alot of SOCKS proxies dont work with continuum, but that one did for me. you only get 56k speeds without paying...but thats not a problem with cont tongue.gif
