I searched on Wiki VIE subspace and found this quote
Quote:
SubSpace is a two-dimensional space shooter computer game published in 1997 by Virgin Interactive Entertainment (VIE). This freeware game incorporates quasi-realistic zero-friction physics into a massively multiplayer online game through the Continuum game client. It is no longer operated by VIE; rather, it subsists by support from fans and players of the game, who provide servers and technical updates. The action is viewed from above, which presents challenges very different from those of a three-dimensional game. The game has no built-in story or set of goals; players may enter a variety of servers, each of which have differing objectives, maps, sounds, and graphics.

and this :It is no longer operated by VIE; rather, it subsists by support from fans and players of the game, who provide servers and technical updates.:

Subspace, subgame, and subbill (with assistance on most/all of those). The stand-alone tool for checking packetloss was done by someone else.

Ekted made the skinnable menu, the option pages, and the chat window.

Jeff created SubSpace, SubGame, SubBill, ScoreMaster.
Robin Keir created Sub-o-Tronic.
Several others were responsible for setting up the VIE network of servers and maintenance.
What's his name did a few patches for the final release versions and added the CD-protection (where the backdoor and *put/getfile commands were placed back inside after Jeff removed them).
