ASSS Questions - Brand new AS3 installation on brand new (professional)server Animate Dreams - Wed Nov 01, 2006 11:31 am Post subject: Brand new AS3 installation on brand new (professional)server
Okay, so I just un tar'd(not sure how to properly word that?) 1.4.3 onto a new server using Fedora Core 5. The host has opened ports 5000 and 5001. After using the run-asss script, the server runs and doesn't give any errors. The only problem is I can't get a client to connect to the server, and the server makes no note that it's getting requests for a connection. I guess I should add that this is a VPS, if that makes any difference. Yes, the server is set to listen on port 5000, I've checked it many times, as well as I've checked the IP/port on my client where I've added the zone on my list. So, I don't know what could be left to stop the zone from connecting. Any ideas?
Since this is just basic troubleshooting, I'd like to say that I HAVE checked the wiki, but I didn't find anything that helped me out, though it's quite likely I missed something.

Okay, update already. I added the directory module, and when I did, the zone showed up on the directory list. I added this zone, and it still won't connect. Also... it gave a different IP when I downloaded it from the directory list than the one I use to ssh into it. Remember, this isn't a private server behind my router, this one is in Canada.

i run 3 servers on a VPS this shouldnt be a problem
whats the zone called?
make sure the ports opened are UDP and TCP and not just tcp.
asss communicates over udp and tcp.

Erm. There probably was some confusion there, since I wasn't the one opening the port. So, I'll go check that out.
Also, this isn't my zone, and I'm not allowed to tell the name. To avoid the owner being hassled by SS politicians.

what kind of processor is the server using?
did you recompile asss before you ran it?

Not sure and no, but the server IS running. Could it really need re-compiling if the server is starting just fine? Since the server makes no note of access attempts, I've been assuming it was a connection issue.

Alright, it was the port thing. >_> Although the zone is still red, there's already a wiki up for that I can run through. Thanks a lot for the help, guys.
