[check screenshot]

As you can see system restore is chunking ALOT out of my harddrive (12%); I dont want to disable sysrsetore but want to give it a reasonable value then 12% what should I adjust it to for a nice (perhaps minimum) value (ie 3 or 4%)?

And should I turn of system rsetore on my second harddrive (D) which is used for only storage and some application running (no system files)?

Well, what is your backup situation? How often have you gotten spyware or viruses? Have you ever used Microsoft's Restore install from the CD or Recovery console? Do you often use beta drivers?

I can generally fix a broken Windows computer, so I disable it on all my installs. For people who get spyware or love installing random drivers, I generally keep it around two gig. For Vista with its new fancy previous-version stuff? Who knows, maybe it might be useful to be a good chunk of the drive space.

I actually use Windows XP Core or Lite (modified version on windows xp reming all the microsoft crap like iexplorer, help error etc)

I really don't have a firewall issue, my Zone Alarm Suite (pro), blocks nearly everything.

And no I only install new hardware when I am upgraded so no random drivers for me (nor beta), and I have never used Microsoft's Restore install from the CD or Recovery console

I would keep it on as a last resort type thing -- even if you think you're safe from the usual threats. You never know when it'll prove useful.

So set it to what you want to backup -- I have mine maxed at 12% (which works out to be roughly 4gb), and I can go back to virtually any day within the last two or three months.

Since you have a 300gb harddrive, I don't see why you even care all that much; you should never need that much storage space anyway, nor will system restore use that much before you end up reformating.

Edit:
Secondly, it's not even your primary drive. Unless you install programs on drive, theres not going to be much of an advantage to using system restore and even if you did I'm not entirely sure if theres a point to it.
