Post subject: Can't boot Windows

I installed Ubuntu the other day and not GRUB won't boot Windows. Whenever I select Windows 2000, it prints the commands to the screen then hangs.

Here's some relevant info:

I know, my partition table's a mess. But do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance... I'm quite frustrated.

If I recall correctly when my bro and I put Windows/Fedora dual boot, the Windows system had to be on the first partition otherwise it wouldn't load properly. :/

Well with the glory of parted I'd be able to move around partitions, but I believe it's just the first disk, not the first partition. Otherwise how you would you ever have two version of Windows on dual-boot?

try this. It has a boot manager that lets u boot directly off any partiction u want.

windows doesnt have to be on the first partiction.

I had windows 98, windows xp and linux installed on the same hard disk with no probs.

Just sounds like your boot record is messed up

I don't know, I never got it to work without putting Windows on the first partition then installing Fedora on the remaining. :shrug:

Well, I think the problem was that Windows didn't like out-of-order partitions. (The Win2000 partition was first on the disk and #2.)

I erased all partitions except for the one with my data, reinstalled everything, and it worked. Time to set up Windows again. *sigh*
