Post subject: Some tough questions
1. How Large is the server unzipped?
2. How much Bandwidth does it use per-player?
3. Link to companies that host the game?

1.) not too big
2.) not too much (it was played with 28.8s)
3.) None do, but someone will no doubt provide some links to private hosts.

1. The server unzipped as it is now is only 2 meg (not hard to d/l it and look at the file). Once you start adding maps and settings, you may kick it up another meg. If you start adding more maps and more settings to subarenas like some zones do, it may start to creep itself upto ~100 megs. But i'd say under normal usage, max of 10meg will be plenty of space if you don't plan on having different subarena settings/maps.

2. Matters. Some zones like Chaos (SVS settings) can use very little bit of bandwidth, since was designed for people with dial-up to use. If you plan on making a super-zone, where people shoot 100 weapons a second, plan on >5k per second per person. Otherwise, ~2k per person sounds about good for non-super setting zones.

3. Companies won't host something that isn't technically 100% legal, as the current subgame software is 'edited', though the original coder actually likes the edits (jeffp, though he has no legal say in this) and the company that actually owns subspace knows of our existance, and doesn't really care since we arn't making money off it. The current major zones are being hosting on company provided bandwidth, but thats because the employees there got permission to use the bandwidth for hosting a server for a game that is free. Some companies are actually cool with the idea of hosting a server on their lines, but you usually have to either work there and be a valuable employee, or give them money.
