Is anyone selling a Invision Power Board Perpetual License? I want to get rid of SMF and go to IPB.

As I've said many times before, I really recommend that no one use phpbb if they had a choice. If you want free, PunBB and SMF are the only logical choices.

What's wrong with SMF? I've said quite a few times that I've been very happy with it. Much cleaner and more customizeable than phpbb, and with a simpler interface.

I've worked with it, heavily. Nothing fits very well with anything else, large parts of the code likes to be nested in tons of for loops, the SQL command it runs are just pure shit and they like to get repeat data for god knows why.

Trying to add features usually results in just a crappy hack job in a couple of files. There are security holes galore throughout PHPBB's history, and a bunch of them could have easily been avoided with good programming design.

And the admin panel, might as well have never existed. Half of the admin work, I've either added my own shortcuts to be able to do things, or I just go straight to the database and do it there.

So basically, you're saying that from a coding aspect it is a fiasco.

So, why don't you stop being lazy and use punBB?

Better yet, create your very own forum software, I think that'll be the coolest (esp. if you share tongue.gif).

Because for the past four years, I've added so many custom changes and features, it isn't worth the effort to move over to a new system and have to redo the ones I like. I keep up with the security fixes (not surprisingly, half of them don't even effect this old version).

As for new forums software? I'm working on tons of other projects, so hand writing my own would be a complete waste of time. These forums don't get that much traffic, so averaging close to a second on every page load isn't that big of a deal until some spider-happy bot comes by and tries to cache hundreds of pages a second.

If I would change, it would be because I wanted something very powerful. I've gotten so used to my method of admining these forums that to go to one just for an admin panel wouldn't be worth the effort. But the forums that Team Barry is creating right now, I'd love to play with once finished. Those would be a hand designed forum with tons of features, very advanced admin panels, a searching script that doesn't use more space than the whole of the posts table, fast, configurable, etc. In otherwords, a forums designed by someone who has to admin a very large forum.

That's written in Perl? O_O

Yay. I remember hacking up ikonboardv2 pretty badly because v3 sucked too much to bother switching.

Pirated copys get hacked by the people who nullified the licsence. I would highly reccomend not getting a pirated copy of any forum software.
