I'd say it's the settings for the weasel from a .cfg file.

what weasel though?

So you stole another zone's settings and are trying to feel good and tricky about it by promoting the fact that you stole someone else's work? You are in the wrong place.

Why don't you delete the topic; then nobody can steal whichever zone's settings.

SSForum.net is over there.

Ugh, dont direct him to SSForum.
Anyways, ive been told about this kind of leak before. It really should be looked into before it leaks out any farther. This would be the second person ive heard about that has somehow gotten ahold of settings without actually recieving them from someone else. (Although i do not know how they do it, which would be helpfull..)

One of the features my bot core has is understand settings. I made a bot that would save all the varibles down to a server.cfg, as would save banners for players. Its not really hard to do, and if you allow non-VIE clients to enter, is very easy to steal settings.

All that is required to take most of the settings from any zone is either allow VIE clients or anyone with VIP/mod powers in a zone. Most bots will fill in all the checksums, so don't need smod/sysop.

TWCore can do banner stuff (if not now publically, very soon)

http://trenchwars.org/ssbe/k/

I also made a class that saved settings to a file but I don't like the way I did it, an array of 40 hashmaps icon_sad.gif

The forum system is now restored... What a waste of 8 hours of this guys time.

Metal Gears settings have been floating around over the last few years for a couple of reasons that I won't get into. Am I concerned about it? No. There are many major SSC zones out there where players have great access to the zones settings and the reason why it doesn't matter is simple. You can't use them in anyway that is harmful. If you want to use them to put up a private zone for you to kick around in with your pals we can't stop you nor would we even try. But if you try to make a zone using our settings I think you will quickly find that it is hard to get/maintain a host when your settings are stolen.

Giving a zones settings out does not kill it, but doing that and hacking a zones website only makes you out to be an ass hat. This is a free game (for you) and all you do is reduce the enjoyment that other players get out of it. If you dislike Testtube, if you dislike ME, or if you dislike the entire game... just leave. Don't inconvience everyone else, just get the hell out of here.

Since any logical implementation would have the server sending the settings to the client, not very likely.

svs you say the forum system has been restored huh, where the hell are they? the only thing i see done is that you couldn't control your site so you took it down until you can manage to fix it. http://metalgearctf.net/ show me differently, i'd love to see.

How could it possibly take 8 hours to do a simple mass deletion of the forums... you full of shit, dude might of played around for 8 hours but what he did to attempt to damage you could never take that long, 10 minutes tops lmfao.
SVS - Fri Dec 23, 2005 7:25 pm
Post subject:
The forum was restored a few minutes after the site was taken down. Our host takes daily back ups of the site as do many hosts which makes it quite easy to restore the entire site from the last days back up. Just because the site has been restored doesn't mean it can come back up, the vulnerability used to gain access to the site has not been addressed and no offense to you mister specialist but I don't feel like dealing with the same person using the same vulnerability again.

Idiot.

Why does this forum allow unregistered guests to post?

Agreed. You are a noob SVS.
I still can't access the site at all, and he says it's been restored. Total bullshit I say.

Hmm, when it was posted, I could access the site, but everything I selected generated SQL errors.
Now it displays 403 instead.

Seem rather long for a backup period.
Which, even so, on appropriate professional hosts never take the site down, at least not for hours on.
Peculiar.

Apparently you are illiterate as my last post explains why the site is not available.

Idiot.

No offense but I have played this game much longer then anyone else on this forum system and I spend a large amount of money and time operating various parts of this game. You look like an ass hat calling me a newbie and you do clarify yourself as being one in the process.

This is the lamest trash talk forum I have seen in years. Typing incoherent idiocies does not constitute trash talking it constitutes stupidity.

What vulnerability? Do you have more noobs in mg giving out passwords to the admin accounts? Thats how he said he gained access. me and alot of other people were talking to the dude on the forum while he was in control. he was going to tell everyone who gave him the password until your idiot ass shut the thing down. your not the slightest bit curious who leaked the password to this jackass? didn't you notice he had changed the email address on Gramps account to ech0dish@yahoo.com duh idiot the guy got the password and took over theres no fucking vulnerability other then your noob ass staff giving out there passwords to morons who can't keep there mouth shut. If your really back in control just delete gramps account, but i doubt you got everything back up and running. Yalls track record in this event shows you to all be pretty fucking dumb.

You guys are noobs who deserve what you got for giving your passwords out. It truely shows how much you guys care about the zone.

if the guy had done an actual hack he would of also changed your email and testtubes email, but no your noob ass staff gave out there password and thats how he got in there is no fucking vulnerability and you clearly haven't restored jack shit.

Why the fuck are you talking about how much you dedicate yourself to this game and explaining your sorry self about how you played longer than anyone here?

No one was arguing about how you haven't dedicated yourself or been playing long. Stop trying to change the damn subject, dickhead.
