What is this BitTorrent? I know it is a program allowing you to d/l lots of stuff but is it leagal? How does it work? And is it a virus or summit? Would you recomend any other better prog than this? Thanks!

It is ILLEGAL.

Can't figure it out, don't bother. (reminds me of this 1 stupid criminal story where he broke into the house at night and his cell-phone rang and woke everyone up)

The program itself probably isn't, but the files it downlaods can be.

For any use it is illegal.

Also, why would anyone need you catch you for anything, you just confessed.

The software isn't illegal, but yeah, the way you could be using it can quickly become illegal.

Don't try to download GTA SA, buy it.

He said he downloaded the client, he didn't say he downloaded GTA SA.

DonKano, you are incredibly ignorant.

Bittorrent is 100% legal. Many companies around the world use it to distribute their software. Using a peer 2 peer network vastly saves on bandwidth costs.

Even if you pirate using bittorrent that still doesn't make bittorrent illegal to use. The only thing that is illegal is the downloading and sharing of pirated music, software, applications, etc. It doesn't matter whether you use a peer 2 peer network or download it directly.

I am not saying it's OK to pirate. I'm simply informing you so you won't go around spreading ignorance.

Because it is illegal to download the full game. Just go to the store and buy it. San Andreas should be around at least $25-$30 now...

They catch you because of the way BT works. When you are "downloading" something, you are actually grabbing tiny pieces of the files from many "people" at the same time, and sending the tiny pieces of the file that you already have to others that need those pieces. So anyone working for the RIAA/MPAA/etc who is "sharing" these files as well, can log your IP address and the time (because they are directly connected to you). In the US, the time and IP is sufficient to file a John Doe law suit. The ISP hosting that IP is required to divulge the user of that account. It's all pretty much bullshit, but if you have money you get the "justice" you want.

I never heard of anyone being caught for downloading a torrent..but thats just me.. Also, Purge, when is the last time you've been to Toys R' Us? It should be from around 20 - 40 bucks in Toys R' Us.. EB Games sells games real cheap.. I got Madden 2k5 recently for only 17 bucks + tax which made it about 19.50.. Why play GTA SA on the computer.. that would be such a waste of memory and time on your part.. Buy the game if it is multi-platform.

I don't really like torrents because it takes alot of resources to download them.. Your average ping would go from like 10 - 500 when you're downloading a large torrent like a game..

The RIAA has filed suit against over 14,000 people so far. Most have settled out of court for a few thousand dollars rather than risk having to pay 10's or 100's of thousands if they lose.

Actually with tax it's only 18. Giving you benefit of the doubt it was 17 dollars, unlike the normal 16.99, it would be 18 dollars and 2 cents.

I recall Ekted using those exact words in another thread on MGBF.

Edit: And my response to that was to laugh since it can mean 2 things. 1 which is what Cyan commented on and 2 is that Bush has been war-deprived for 1 hour too long.

Your crap isn't anything close to gadgets, those are really stupid toys.
Act your age already.

Purge, it's fine to have toys, just make sure you don't get stuff Quan has. sa_tongue.gif

1 of my brothers likes to have guns as toys. He has about a collection of 9 or so. Most of them are rifles.

Bah, why is everyone quoting a complete post just to reply to the full message? It's only necessary to quote if not quoting would make it very hard to understand for people who read it what it's about. A quote refers to a piece of text, but since you reply to the last post already, you don't have to refer to it anymore since that was made clear automatically. icon_sad.gif
Yeah, now someone quote this full post and say "owned" to show some stupidity.

Not sure what you mean Cyan. My comment was intended to mean that the US is trying to impose its own version of copyright law on the world. I was making no statement on the legality of downloading music.

Well, a gadget or gizmo is a device that has a useful specific purpose and function. Gadgets tend to be more unusual or cleverly designed than normal technology, according to wikipedia.. Look at beybaldes for example.. They are these little unusual devices that spin when you pull a trigger.. That arent normal spinning tops. They are tops with different designs. Action figures are sometimes really cool because of the way they are shaped and the things that some of them can do like shoot stuff out of them.

Solo, mabye you have a problem. I think that you are in this adult phase where you are kind of the anti-child. You probably can't have fun. Truthfully, I feel sorry for people like you. Atleast I am diverse and I don't have a problem saying that I like toys. Mabye people(including girls) would like you way more if you knew how to have fun. I can act my age, and I can be fun and "childish".. Im 15. I think that I'm acting just the way that I'm supposed to be acting. Alot of todays society is "fast" meaning that children/teenagers are too quick to mature. Thats according to my parents. I don't want to be serious for the next 5 years of my life. I'll be serious about school and about the things that you need to be serious with. Other than that, I will have fun if I'm stressed. Stressors can be conquered through things that make you happy, I say. I refuse to be an adult that is psycologically fatigued due to a childhood that was not full of any enjoyment. Im a teenager. Im into my music, my girls, my computers, sports and my look. WTF.. You have this strange idea that your expectations of acting your age is the only way to look at things. You need to check the world around you if you think that that is how it goes, Solo.

Also, sometimes money is an issue. What the fuck? Do you constantly buy expensive things and expect everyone to do the same? Imagine a 5 year old wanting a laptop every christmas. Thats atleast 600 bucks. Those are adult "toys". I personally don't think that they are toys. I think that they are a necessity to a certain degree due to todays constant advancment in society dealing with technology. A toy is something you play with. Toys are designed to play with. Yeah, sure you can play games on a laptop, but can you do things like throw it to someone at play a full game of dodgeball? Can you make it fight another toy physically? Can you play pretend with it and imagine that you are on an adventure with the toy/character that the toy portrays? Think about this. Its not always immature to have a toy in your hand eery once and a while.

Like I said.. I can act my age, but I know the time and the place to do it. For now, let me have my fun and stop trying to get rid of the little imagination that I have.

No, a lot of today's society is "slow." If you want "fast," go to work in a factory after you graduate from fourth grade.

Ekted, you just seemed to resent the fact that the RIAA gets justice because they have money. I don't resent that, I just resent that some people don't get justice because they don't have money.
Mr Ekted - Sun Oct 23, 2005 9:00 pm

I resent that they can fuck with the system because they afford to drag it out until the victim can no longer afford to defend themselves, guilty or not.

Let's take a hypothetical, albeit a little extreme, example:

You record your thoughts about some Metallica song as audio, and share it using BitTorrent as the file Metallica.mp3. All of this is 100% legal. I "download" this file so I can hear your thoughts. Again, 100% legal. The RIAA monkeys watch this exchange, and hence take part it in, adding our IP's to their attack list. Regadless of the fact that neither of us did anything illegal, or the fact that they have no real evidence, we are both fucked. With their "evidence", they can force our ISP's to turn over our real names and addresses. In the end, even if we "win", we end up losing time and money to defnd ourselves.

Now let's take this example one step further. You replace your mp3 with a real copyrighted song, but I don't know that. I go to download your file, and hence share that file with others. I am unwittingly uploading copyrighted material. Now I am technically guilty but not by intent. Regardless, I am fucked again.
