Anyone planing to buy this? Just thought I would let ya'll know that I was able to get it 3 days before its release and give you a little review.

The graphics are great and the game play is alot like the other AOE games... so far the only difference is mostly a more 3d like enviroment and of course new's times and civilizations. You can get a idea of how it looks from there screen shots at www.ageofempires3.com. They also have a demo out for it too.

Only down side to the game is the hardware it requires.
Windoes xp
1.4 Ghz cpu
2 GB hd space
64 Mb graphics card

All in all I say its a great game and if you like games like this then get it.

Those hardware requirements aren't steep at all. If your PC can't run AOE3 then it's way past time to upgrade.

Or he has sources at which they are game testers and he can get games before they come out. Just like how I can get the ps3 before it comes into the usa.

I heard it sucked, it got a 8.2 out of 10 on gamespot.com; but the graphics look better than the previous.

8.2 is actually good (compared to SS which would get 0.0023).

Anyways..

All it takes is for the person on gamespot.com to have got his fingers sticky while eating a donut at the same time as playing AOE3 and get cross and say 8.2!!!

No SS would get a score based on it's gameplay and cat., yeay a 0.0023 vs a Xbox360 or w/e

Requiring Windows XP? That's ridiculous.

I love AOEII, but it's one of the worse programmed games I play. It sucks up resources like crap for no noticeable gain. Total Annihilation, an older RTS game with better (3d model instead of rotated bitmap) graphics uses less resources. So basically, I don't think Ensemble Studios will change.

And the file formats it uses are ridiculous too. For example, the format for user-made scenarios is so space inefficient that it deflates them. You know why? Things like leaving 256 bytes of space for player's names when you can only type in 29. Like having a 256x256 array of 3-byte structures that contain two values, the terrain type (0-28), and the elevation (0-8). And this doesn't waste space, but definitely something to complain about: it stores player 1's inital view as an integer pair, while 2-16 it stores as a float pair. WTF? Oh, and the scenario leaves space for 16 players and 5 resources, but it only uses 8 players and 4 resources. So unbelievably retarded.

Heh, can you tell I've written a scenario editor program for it?

I can't, but I can tell you waste too much time.

In all honesty, how often does any website or gaming mag rate a game between 9.5 and 10? Its very rare.

Yeah I think i'll use British too icon_smile.gif then we can have a small mutiny if we ever play each other online icon_smile.gif

I agree, online play is much more of a challange then vs computer. Though I love the odd games people create, like on in AOE2 it was like Soldier Castle or Blood w/e in that you have a contuios surplus of soldiers and go raid you enimies castle. $$

How is that relevant to the topic?

Anyway, online play is better, it basically has more of a challenge. More people = More fun.
