I had been watching the rumors that were flying, the formal announcement today. Makes me wonder, what would eBay do with Skype? Unless it's like Yahoo and Konfabulator - just 'to have'.

If you have Skype installed, remove it now. Adware/spyware coming.

Death to Ebay. new_evil.gif
So much for skype being any good.

Good thing TS is still cool.
And there are other free VoIP other than skype, right?

Also, agreed with Ekted.

So what's the big deal? You can do the same thing with Yahoo, AIM, MSN, Google Talk, Teamspeak, Ventrillo (sp?) and, I know this is a shocker, but a PHONE!....

Google Talk is working on it. As a bonus, it will be open sourced, and most likely always free (well, phone/computer to phone won't be).

Either way, Priit should have made a nice little bonus, and maybe have some free time soon. Skype is now dead in my eyes, as is Kazaa.

That's what I was thinking as well MGB. With both of his major projects now pretty much in hands of other people; perhaps, .39 will be released. :X

Watch him commercialize it now and make it pay-to-play.

Um, okay. It's not like the current Continuum clients would just disappear.

I assume your talking about Continuum... if thats the case then it would be imposible for that to happen... considering the facts... continuum .38 and/or pre .39 are already on everyone's systems and we run a majority of the servers. If he released .39 and it was a pay to play all he could do is make it so you had to buy a key to install it... then again the fact still remains... we already have a working client so we wouldn't have to upgrade becuase our current ones would still work... I dont see anyway possible for it to ever happen. Then only route that could be takin is for the new client to have all the features we have been wanting put into it and the charge for the new client but then again.. I doubt anyone would want to buy it. I for one would love nothing more then to pay to play SS /sarcasm

First off, he can't. If he had, he'd be pushing into possible copyright issues. If he were to make the switch, he'd have to get a group of new graphics, sounds, etc. etc. which I really doubt would occur.

One thing Priit has been consistent on from the beginning: free Continuum.

I'm sure Janus already has another project lined up.

edit: I was just looking "Get 120 Skype minutes and free voicemail when you buy $10 or more of Skype services using Paypal".

Didn't take them very long, eh?

Damnit. I was going to be clever and talk about priit having free time now, but you all beat me to it.

Maybe this is why he sent out that email to ghost a while back -- Skype knew about the deal a while ago.

Jeez, hold up on the flipping out. I saw that last night, it's just for skype -> analog phone calls, not skype -> skype.

I didn't flip out, nor was I really surprised. Just stating that they're busy little suckers. tongue.gif Well, if I had plannned by buy a company for millions / billions of dollars, one should have an immediate plan of action.

If I wanted to flip out, it would have been worthy enough to make it on my blog. sa_tongue.gif lol and it hasn't nor will it.
