ok i need help AGAIN, yes i know.

ok so i am going to let this person be a mod in my zone. but i didnt like the password in the server.ini file. so i changed it and did the whole putfile thing. i also added this person to the moderate.txt file and did the putfile and everything is right. this person tryed to log in and in the *log it says un-authorized mod (name) - *password.

i dont know what is wrong. it looks like everything is in right order but it doenst work. so i let this person on as a smod for right now and that works perfectly fine. is it because i changed the password and it needs changed somewhere else or what?!

It takes a while for the password, and the moderate.txt to work..just like the news.txt. Try making him do it again...

PLEASE NOTE: You do NOT need to give out the moderator password to mods. The only reason they would need it, is if the biller went offline. (which in your case, it does)

Hmm, if not I'm mistaken, the biller hasn't been offline for a long time. So before you get a bunch of people to flame you Confess, you'd better get your facts straight before you make your statements.

Also think, if he tried the moderate.txt and that didn't work, but did the smod.txt and that worked, shouldn't it have taken longer than he thought?

it never took time before and they DO need the moderator password because we have them long in all the time incase the biller DOES go off people just cant get on their name and be a mod.

i already have one person on the moderate.txt file and everything works fine for him but this other person...not working.

Actually Contempt, I did get my facts straight...Cancer himself was telling me it was constantly going down, and wanted me to get him on another biller.

Anyways, if the biller goes down..no one can recieve mod/smod/sysop/bot access unless they have the password.

Are you giving him access to just certain area..or are you just adding his name like such..

ModName
ModName
ModName?

I dont see why it wouldnt work.. make sure you're entering the right name and spelling, and also..wait 10 mins for it too apply, and have him enter/reenter the zone afterwards.

Ok, speak your nonsense.

You don't have to wait 10 minutes for it to apply. Think about it, if the smod works right away, why wouldn't the mod?

The server just has to reread its settings...

Also, make sure CheckMod=1 in server.ini.

...
CheckMod=1, not Checkmod=0, thats going too make it so ANYONE with teh password can login..

Btw, he didnt say it worked immedietly Contempt..you're drawing that up from your ass. Well..atleast while you're in there..do you think you could look for my hat? Its gone missing.

Shit, I was corrected.

checkmod=1 and not anyone with the pass can log on. they also have to be on the moderate, smod, sysop.txt files AND put the pass in to login.

ok it did automatically work on the smod.txt and the name IS correct and everything is right

the only thing i could think is wrong is because i changed the pass in the server.ini, does it need to be changed somewhere else also or no?

No, but you can try and add the guy onto the list and PM him with *moderator to see if even that works. Also, make sure you don't have any spelling errors or any silly crap like that in the moderate.txt.
Cancer+ - Sun Aug 21, 2005 4:28 am
Post subject:
yea, no spelling errors..i will try that *moderator

Try and give him the old mod password, sometimes the server.ini is set to read only, so your not able to change it.

well, the owner had a backup of the .ini and he put that in and now it works. thanks for the help.
