Zone Hosting / Advertising - sscx host?

I have played ss for quite some time now and i have been staff for SSCX Alpha West now for about 2 years or so. During my time as staff i have done many things to the zone to add spice to it and to attract new ppl. Recently i have brought battlebot into alpha, with the help of Mystery Meat (the coder). I have also helped launch AWL, the new 2v2 league based on alpha settings.
From day one i have pleaded and begged Bargeld (zone sysops) to change one setting. and that is the random damage in alpha. As time went by i noticed more and more ppl complaining about it. Recently i have brought this to his attention. His response is that he is keeping alpha a nostalgic zone and will not ever change those settings. I respect him for that and i will not argue any longer, that is his zone to run. but to ignore the public in that way does not seem right. I wish to bring back SSCX Alpha East and i wish to run it myself, along with the help of a couple of my good friends. I have enough Staff experience that i could run the zone smoothly. I also have enough of a following that the zone will have a nice start.

1.) Depending if i am hosted, i would either put up the old alpha map or design a new one.( i have been designing maps since 2000 a pub map will not be hard)

2.)Settings of course will be SVS but will not have random direction or random damage.

3.) Alpha East will mainly be free for all but will have many many subarenas with smaller games. I pride myself in coming up with different kinds of new games quite often.

4.) I know programmers and bots should be easy enough to make. I will ask bargeld for permission and try and get battlebot for Alpha East. It is a multi-purpose bot and is a host for many many games. i will host my own bots so there wont be a question of hogging server space.

5.) As far as bells and whistles, well i can do that all in the design of the tiles and such. Im going to offer things like a one time download of seasonal lvz files, so that there will be a bot up to change it out every holiday season and no one will ever have to download anything new. Move SSCX into the new gen and maybe run it with asss so that any future merger with sscx svs zone will be as painless as possible.

Well that pretty much sums it up. If someone reading this maybe has a better route for me to take , please by all means speak up. I DO NOT WANT TO STEAL ALPHAS POPULATION. What i want to do is give the zone back to the ppl. If the people think that random damage needs to go, then if majority rules i would at least consider it and maybe try it out. Along with any other problem or setting that may be causing ppl to leave and maybe creating a non-fun environment .

It is good to see that you are trying to give the zone back to the people. If you did not own SSCX Alpha East, then i do suggest you talk to the original owner and ask for permission. If he says no, then create a new zone, simular to the zone you are wanting, then tell the original owner to "fuck off"

Just do not steal any files/etc...That is absouletly the wrong way to go.

You would think that if you have been around SSCX long enough, you would know the right people to talk to. I know the right people to talk to, and I know that you are going about it the competely wrong way. Here is how the system works
1) You do everything, not just come up with the idea. You put in your own work, and being dependant on programmers or some specialized dev team to put the zone together will get you no where.
2) Having a zone put together doesn't mean shit. The SSCX staff don't know you, thus they have no reason to believe you are capable of maintaining a zone. You must show by example, build the zone up to a large population and impress the potential host.
3) You will steal other zones' population, especially if your settings are very similar to another zone's settings. For this reason alone, I doubt that anyone will go along with your plan.

I think you will quickly learn that no one really gives a shit about one setting change and all your work will amount to nothing. Subspace isn't a government where the people get a say in zone development: the way they choose is by playing or not playing in a particular zone. If Alpha west has a population then clearly bargeld is doing a decent job and the zone's settings are working.
None of the SSCX staff even look at this forum, so I don't see the point of posting. The person to talk to is yarekim. I stress that he is a very busy man, don't waste his time and I doubt that you will even get a reply unless he is competely unoccupied.

My suggestion is to give up now. Maybe do something original? No one has ever done my Jurassic Park zone idea, that might be nice to see, download Jurassic Park: Project Genesis and you'll get the jist of it, its a pretty good game. But I doubt that it would get a population, mostly teens and adults play SS, zones that appeal to little kids don't seem to get off their feet. Whatever you do, don't make a CTF zone.

Confess... didn't you just recently get mad at someone for having settings that were arbitrarily similar to yours? Or was it their ships from SSDL that got your goat?

Confess has probably some of the worst advice in the game. I can tell you straight up that you won't get hosted on SSCX. Myself and Testtube are the only SSC hosts that will probably take more zones on. However, I have no interest in your idea and I doubt he would either.

I have to admit this is all good to know anyway. I have been here long enough to know that yarekim is the way to go. I am not going to go behind anyones back. This is a public forum and anyone is able to bring this up. I also posted this here to get feedback. As i said before i am not here to steal anybodys population. He'll if someone would give me DZ i would ressurect it from the dead =). As for the population in alpha i would have to say that my contributions to alpha has improved the population in alpha. And like i said i do have a following. I will talk to yarekim and see what can be sorted out.
If we cannot come to an agreement then i will build a zone from scratch and we will go from there.

i dont believe that at all. I believe that the zones that are running now with alot of population are running because they listen to the players, if only to a certain extent.

I was mad at him because he had wanted to be unbanned, simply for the fact of copying my zone.

This is a total different story. If I ever decided "The zone will stay as is, with or without the populations input" and someone wanted to go and say 'This isnt right, the zone should belong to the population. If they want to have 1000bounty, then so be it. Im going to get permission to use the files, then if i cant, create a simular zone for the population' then i would have to agree with them. Sure, i'd be pissed, but i'd understand why they where doing it..

Stealing is not the way to go. But creating a simular zone, to give back to the public, is.

Well do whatever you want psyops, I'm just saying that you won't get hosted. But it is your time to waste, have fun giving "the zone back to the ppl," I'm sure they won't give a damn.

this is where the older players, who all know each other, forget how hard it is to start a zone in any way, never mind anything else

and isnt there a problem in the way people get hosts, how do you run a zone well with a lot of players when you have no host for them to play on? you have no host so people cant play, people cant play so you cant get a host.... im i the only one thinking _duh_
