Post subject: Warning to Zone Owners and Sysops

Attention Zone owners and sysops of zones-

Lately someone has been coming around posing as either me, or MineGoBoom. After they have recieved any form of staff member powers (mod/smod/sysop) they either do crap to the server through *putfile *delfile and esc c or *kill people and *shutdown/*recycle. Because of this, I am going to give you some pointers on ways to help avoid this.

1. If someone comes into your zone under an alias you recognize, make sure it is them by messaging them from an IM service that you have there SN on. This will help acknowledge that it is actually that person. You will not always know it is that person by the name because the biller will not always have that person registered.

2. If someone comes in and says "I would like to host you" etc, they do
NOT need sysop. It simply requires them being sent the files.

3. If someone comes and says "Would you like ____ Billing" sysop is not required, yet again. All they have to do is tell you how to edit the section [Billing] in your server.ini.

4. Do not give sysop/smod/mod to a person just because they ask for it.
Not only is it noobish to do so, but they could possibly do something to
the zone to harm it. Do a background check on the person and recieve some information about them. It would also be wise to *info and *einfo them along with ?alias them so if they do something, you can pinpoint the
person who did it and have them banned.

5. Always save a copy of the subgame.log if something does happen. This
can help you find out what they did, and how to correct it. Also, save a
copy of the billing logs.

I will come up with some more pointers to help you out as I think of them.

PS- Someone is also using the SN confess32l and thats L not 1 (says Cybersnipe)

Well, the Confess32l was on AIM. I had that person talk to me posing as confess.

I found it rather funny, because he was saying everything just like confess did before.

First, who would impersonate Confess? And second, why would you give confess any kind of power in your zone? Based on these, you deserve to get your zone deleted...

I find this very easy to believe. Almost anything computer hacking related is almost always social engineering, both when computers were very new (call up the phone company, get them to read numbers off machines for 'service requests' from other departments) and now that everyone is new on computers.

Back when I regularly went around zones to give pointers and such, a lot of people asked me if I would be a sysop in their zones. I had to reject offers. I guess the best thing I can do now, is to go roaming around zones one my next day off, and talk with people, hopefully to get the idea that "no, I don't need any access."

I'm surprised Ekted hasn't been targeted yet. Priit has been targeted many times before, even in SSC zones (I remember how PrittK got sysop in 3 zones a couple of years ago).

yeah, a guy came around with the name Confess+ and asked me if i wanted hosting so i said sure, he starteed *killing everyone and removed the bg off zone, diddnt see what else he did

I heard about that from Evil Leet and i was gonna talk to you about it, but you hadnt logged in before you saw this post =/

Anyways, Im willing to connect anyone who wish to be on the SSI billing on my group. Either contact me or Explody to get connected. (or talk to another well known server such as SSU to get billing)

PS- I request that the ip 86.131.85.16 be banned for attacks on several networks.

PSS- This ip appears to be Spyed, yet again, grrrr, when will this guy learn?

Now tell me 1st, if someone went and did crap to multiple zones, no matter how noobish the owners were, dont you think that you would want them banned/etc? Especially if they went in under your name?

If no, then if i or anyone else goes and does anything to SSI (and no, i am not saying i am going to do anything) (and btw, a zone was attacked on the SSI biller by spyed) then dont do anything. Dont ban that person, dont confront him, dont do anything, because by what you're saying, thats what you want done.

Removing my bang powers wont exactly help your network, now will it? Currently, there are only 3 zones on the network that are not part of my group. You remove me for disclosing a person who fucked up zones, chances are you'll lose them too. Im sure no one in the right mind would want to be part of a network were the owner does not persicute people of this degree. Can you honestly say you would?

To those people who think disclosing the IP/mac/etc of a hacker is wrong- By thinking this, you give everyone the right to come and fuck up your zone/network/etc.

A. As I said on ssforum, I do not do anything for zones that I do not host. Also, these zone owners brought it upon themselves. If they can't handle running a zone then they shouldn't be hosted in the first place.

B. Honestly, do you really think I put any time into the biller? I really have no interest in it and I don't go around actively promoting it or trying to become the borg and assimilate all the zones onto it. Every time some one tries to do one of their "unite subspace" campaigns I shoot them down.

C. If there's no zones on it then..who cares? SSC is really all that matters anymore. You might say "wow, you're brainwashed" but nobody pays any attention to billers that aren't SSC. Just look at the player base on all the other "networks" that aren't SSC.

D. You have never, ever tried to prove anybody did anything to me. All I see you doing is ranting all over the forums about this and that saying you have proof of this and that however did you ever bring it to my attention? Did you ever bring it to Explody Thingy's attention? He's my netop in case you didn't catch it the first 12 times. Nope, you didn't. Just talk to SVS. I will not do anything without blatent and undisputable proof.

E. Wow, this is getting long. Just wait until I get my computer on wednesday. The rule about disclosing an IP address on the forum isn't my rule. It's the forums rule. If you can't follow the forums rule then you should not be posting anything. In fact, you shouldn't be posting anyway because nothing you have to say is relevant to anything.

So, I end this with a very simple and very barbaric shut the fuck up. You have several choices.

A. Teach your sysops how to run a zone so they can't be taken advantage of again.

B. Go around and rant about how bad I am and how I'm the root of all evil.

C. Remove yourself from my biller.

That's it. Join A380 or something. I don't need nor want a bitch roaming something I host. Now, if you happen to start to show some sort of intelligence and would like to impress me then by all means do so. I'm not going to force you off but I would be very pleased if you had an intelligent conversation for once.

God damnit. I typed more. Oh well. I reiterate the above barbaric comment.

I actually have no rule against IPs, as it does very little. Posting someone's phone number and street address, even though I have no rule against it, is unacceptable, as it falls under the "I will not be an ass" cover-all rule.

Sorry MGB, I failed to be specific. He posted an IP more than once on ssforum which is what I was referring to. Over yonder it is a rule that he's violated more than once.

Over here he hasn't done anything warranting a ban, however I think he should get a new title for his obnoxious posts.
