I did it. I've finally reached the status of demigod. After over 200 characters slaughtered in many amusing ways, I've been able to hand the Amulet of Yendor to my God, Kos.

Not mine. Here is a post I made about my #2 spot when it happened, which was (at that time) my farthest I've ever gotten.

-Quoting some guy talking about insta-deaths-

You would like to think that, wouldn't you?

Well, a couple of nights ago, I went ahead with my Wizard I've been talking about. I was having a bad weekend, and wanted to just get to sleep, but was unable. Since I use my WinCE machine to play nethack, I was able to jump back into my game within a couple of seconds. So its around 1AM, and I'm playing tired and am annoyed. Guess how this ends up?

I just gotten to the vibrating square, which I was very lucky to find. I was just plowing out some walls so I could get an outline of everywhere the square could be, to narrow down my search. As I'm plowing out the outline, I hit the square. Saved me about 10 or so minutes. I go back to killing the Wizard, but my magic missile spell just started to fade, which isn't good (since everything else fades within about 1,000 turns after that one). So I tell myself, I'm going back to L9 (my ultra-stash is stored), reading all the books to refresh everything except wizard lock (need something to confuse myself with later), kill the wizard, and do the dance for the vibrating square. I will then stop, and go to sleep. To make my trip faster down, I pull out a couple of food rations so when I teleport, I can get my food level back up fast. My bag of holding contains a whole bunch of royal jelly/elven bread for the trip up, and I don't want to use them, since I don't know how long it may take.

Well, as time tells, I get to the vibrating square, getting nice and lucky (there was a cockatrice next to the wizard, he was easy pickings). When I open the gate, some peaceful Gremlins were there and start to spawn like crazy, filling up the area fast. Some monsters that appeared where a cockatrice, so I fap, and start stoning everything in sight. I keep telling myself, I should stop now. But what the hell? I have a cockatrice corpse, I'll just take a peak down stairs before I go to sleep. I can always just stone the things near me if I'm in trouble.

I think back to all the suggestions here in this thread about all the bad things that can happen with cockatrices, so I put everything that I didn't need real bad into my bag of holding, incase some crappy X decided to wound my leg and I get burden. Since I'm sleepy, I don't really look at all the things I put in, my mind is in auto-pilot. I put in pretty much everything except what I'm wearing, and a few needed tools (horn/lamp/etc).

I go down stairs. I put on my blindfold to check out the monsters. Not too bad, I'll just go a bit more forward, to clear out this easy section ahead. I get there, bust down the door, and start shooting off missiles like crazy whenever two or more monsters line up at the door. I'm picking them off like nothing else, ignoring the weak guys who even if they hit me, do no damage. One of those weaklings get past the door as I'm waiting for more guys to line up, and start reading/zapping for more monsters. So I have a bunch of big guys near me, including cockatrices. I go after them first, thinking how crappy it would be to get stoned here at the bottom of all levels.

Some purple worms start trying to eat me without luck. I'm not really getting hurt much, so I look through my bag of holding for any neat tricks I could do. I see my ring of conflict, which I ignored most the game since I tried to keep pets. Sadly, Devourous my Dog->Dragon->Worm->Troll, finally to Orc, got useless. He eat anything and stepped on anything in which could poly himself. Poor guy.

I uncurse the ring of conflict with the unlimited potions of holy water I have, and put it on. The huge screen of monsters around me start killing each other, and my spells of missiles/death take out the bigger guys. Couple of minutes, and I cleared out this little zoo/graveyard thing. I check my status bar, to see how my hps/energy are holding up, and notice that I'm no longer full. I figure nows a good time to eat that last food ration while no monsters are around me, so I can abuse teleport later on. I hit 'e' then 'v', as it was the only option it gave me to eat. Then the following screen appears.

AHHH!!! NO!!!! I must have put my food ration into my bag of holding before I entered this level, to clear off any 'junk' spaces that might weigh me down. And I forgot I have the cockatrice corpse picked up, because I was busy casting spells and laughing at my ring of conflict work. Plus, it was 3:23AM.

-Descriptions of everything I had at my time of death-

This is so sad. I havn't touch nethack since. I'm sort of proud of this game, since I did good, to overcome a bunch of unlucky things. That one wand of poly was all I got for polying, so I never poly piled, because I figured it would have just returned junk. Also, that font looks much nicer on the WinCE machine and is readable there. Sort of like an early ClearType feature.
