I just upgraded to Java 1.5. Now every time I boot my machine, the first web page I view with a Java applet (Firefox or IE), there's a 15 second delay for Java to initialize(?). After the first time it's instant. I have auto-update disabled. Any ideas what's doing this and how to disable it?

It's probably the Java Virtual Machine starting up. I've had the same thing with 1.4.2. Were you using Microsoft's virtual machine before? I've never used microsoft's but I've heard it's faster.

Always used Sun. Never had this problem until 1.5.

They're not problems. They're issues. Haven't you ever done tech support before? :d

You could write a java program that does nothing and put it in your startup folder.

My browser comes with a preloader that you can put in the startup folder but I don't use it because it's fast enough as it is, also there is this memory leak or something (if I view too many images there is a re-draw problem) so I would have to close all instances so the OS cleaned it up.
