Seems that it uses the first one to give you feedback on local network pings (localhost included) and the second one for WAN server pings.

Odd...

Did VIE also use external sources for pinging?

Seems so, it tries to access 216.34.65.93:9001
Yep, it's a pinger alright.

Could anyone provide details about these and what's their purpose? How come they're being "ping hubs"?

More importantly, why does this show up in the hex?

Public access DNS servers?

LoL Distort.
Suxor attempt by a bored priit who prefer to draw in hex than work on client code.

Well I remember way back when, that Continuum actually talks to bluemoon.ee; thats how I found out about priit's company. I msged ekted about it and he wasn't sure why it was doing that - he asked if I had like kazaa installed, etc. and i'm like nope... :/

Priit loves to gather statistics about his users.

All zones that have a url of the form ss://host.com in their descriptions cause my code to do a quick DNS lookup (background thread) at start time. This way if the IP has changed, it is immediately modified in place. I use normal gethostbyname() calls which uses whatever DNS setup your operating system has. Of course, this only works in your zone has DNS registered.

Except in the Kazaa documents, he was a strong advocate against it.

Only because he knows it'll cause a user uproar when (and he knows it will become public knowledge eventually and there's no hiding it from them) it'll be found out about, and that because of the shit sharman pulled since priit & co. sold kazaa to them, they're likely to lose over half their user base if they do so.

He doesn't care about the users, see, he cares about his little proggie being ejected out of the cyber-sphere/or otherwise smart enough to be aware of the reprecautions and anticipate them and tell sherman in a subtle-smart way that he (sherman) is basically a retarded moron for trying to do it.

Oh, so that's how you achived it.
Well then, in that case, my commendations for a job well done Ekted.
Just...why two seperate DNSers for LAN and WAN icon_question.gif (or so it would seem)

I don't specifically make 2 DNS calls/queries. It must be your system doing that. I have DHCP with my ISP, which gives me 3 IP's for DNS.

I think a few of us would appreciate it if you'd check here, Ekted.

And, d1s, that's an icon resource. Check out any EXE with a custom icon. Wow, grav's facts aren't again.

It's not that. I just don't like the interface. This forum is about helping people. I don't see why it needs to be 2 interfaces.

One is for asking questions, the other is for a repository where questions can be already answered and laid out in a nice format for easier searching/reading. Thus the desire for me to merge the two together.
