Trench Wars Development Team is looking for experienced lvz makers or bot coders. To work on team or solo projects that interest you. We develope new arenas for special events that are hosted at Trench Wars. We have our own zone to develope these arenas before they are submitted to Trench Wars. This zone is called SSI TWdev Testing (thank you 1stStrike). If interested joining our Dev Team email me at superdavepostal@gmail.comBlindmonkey21 - Fri Jan 07, 2005 5:30 pm Post subject:
Does this have to do with all of the staff members leaving because the higher staff members have been unproductive and doing jack shit?
Jacen Solo - Fri Jan 07, 2005 9:56 pm Post subject:
Even though I doubt any bot coders here are interested, I'm the TWDev Leader in charge of bot creation, so, if you're interested in that email me some of your work to olosnecaj@gmail.comBak - Fri Jan 07, 2005 10:00 pm Post subject:
do you guys develop in tw core only? or merv core too now?
Jacen Solo - Fri Jan 07, 2005 10:59 pm Post subject:
It's TWCore only, having a hubbot is nice... from what I understand MERVBot is only a single bot correct?
Cyan~Fire - Fri Jan 07, 2005 11:17 pm Post subject:
If you're referring to having multiple spawns per core, MERV can do that.
Bak - Sat Jan 08, 2005 2:04 am Post subject:
yeah up to 768 if you're running the bots off the server... or 3 if you're running them remotely.
Cyan~Fire - Sat Jan 08, 2005 10:24 am Post subject:
The 3 is just a bandwidth limit. If the bots are on a LAN from the server (like in SSI), then you could probably increase it a bit higher. (But not as high as 768, I'd say. )

It's pretty much the central place for TWCore development (obviously)
I like how its set up, making different types of bots to use. One MERV spawn is equivalent to a TWBot for anyone that isn't familiar

From what the bot dudes tell me, MERV owns TWCore - but, then, most do not favor Java.
D1st0rt - Sat Jan 08, 2005 11:39 pm Post subject:
Merv has more functionality than TWCore, but TWCore uses less resources, has integrated MySQL, and can run on any computer with a JVM without having to rebuild. I think it has the potential to be better than MERV, but not any time soon.
Blindmonkey21 - Sat Jan 08, 2005 11:47 pm Post subject:
TWCore is in Java so it is infinitely better.
Solo Ace - Sat Jan 08, 2005 11:51 pm Post subject:
And for what reason do you think you prefer Java?
2dragons - Sun Jan 09, 2005 1:25 am Post subject:
I don't know what functionality TWCore lacks that merv has. And what it lacks is minimal and can be added if you want it.
Cyan~Fire - Sun Jan 09, 2005 12:31 pm Post subject:
I've never used TWCore, but MERV could be a lot better.

You know what would be sweet? I don't know if any of you have ever made any maps for games like Starcraft but they make it noob friendly, in which you say.
Players it Affects
All Players
Requirements
Player 1 moves to location Blindissexy
Action
Give Player 12000Ore
*Note* Things that are underlined can be customized simply by clicking on them then either choosing what you want or in the case of numbers typing it in
Well of course it would be modified for Continuum but this would be a way so that the average player can make bots that can be customized to fit their zone.
While AI bots and things like that would still have to be programmed with C++ it would make easy bots available to the masses. And just think of how little people there would be asking C++ coders to make them Merv plugins.[/u]
Solo Ace - Mon Jan 10, 2005 5:53 pm Post subject:
I only read the last part ("While AI bots" ... "them Merv plugins.") of your post and wanted to say it doesn't make sense, but your whole post doesn't at all.
Cyan~Fire - Mon Jan 10, 2005 6:24 pm Post subject:
Well of course a completely customizeable plugin system would be great, but who's gonna do it?!
Solo Ace - Tue Jan 11, 2005 8:44 am Post subject:
Nobody is, that'd be way too much work for a bot.
D1st0rt - Tue Jan 11, 2005 2:50 pm Post subject:
If you're serious about bot programming, you don't need to have a language like that, munky
Solo Ace - Tue Jan 11, 2005 3:47 pm Post subject:
Eh? lol Blindmonkey21 - Tue Jan 11, 2005 9:36 pm Post subject:
Yeah I knew that noone was going to do it, but I figured that it might not hurt to just through it out. Besides it only took me like 2 minutes to type that up. But that would infinitely make Merv better than TWCore hands down Bak - Tue Jan 11, 2005 11:23 pm Post subject:
what's the point, as you would still need a compiler and that's beyond anyone who can't code.
Muskrat - Tue Jan 11, 2005 11:36 pm Post subject:
and stop saying infinitely
Cyan~Fire - Wed Jan 12, 2005 6:23 am Post subject:
Good plugins don't make a core better!
That's like the stupid people that get angry at me when I say XBox is the best gaming system out there. "But PS2 has better games! You're wrong!"
D1st0rt - Wed Jan 12, 2005 2:43 pm Post subject:
you're both wrong. PC is the best gaming system.
