Well, I've started hosting asss zones, who really need and want it, now you have to understand, not many modules are out, and if they are i dont know where they are, asss is very complicated so dont get mad if its down or something, you must learn linux commands, especcily if its down and you want it back up, I will put up a auto rebooter for you, SSA will be hosting Subgame, and SST-A will be hosting ASSS, if you are interested, drop me a message on either SSA or SST-A

haha have fun with that, make sure you trust the people you are hosting or they could really screw up your server

Uhhh.

D1s, maybe you don't realize but Linux is made for terminal hosting. It's not like Remote Desktop on Linux or some crap like that.

Well, Unlike most people I know how to secure my server, and the maximum access they will have is ftp, unless they know me well, and/or i can trust them with SSH access, other than that, there will be a auto rebooter, so if the zone dies, it will autoboot itself icon_smile.gif

I'm talking about modules dude, they have full access to the computer last I checked.

ie, a bad module can mess crap up, or someone could put up a virus

In an ASSS module? I'd sure as heck hope the API isn't that insecure.

I know when SSN was discussing about possible, unlikely, hosting of ASSS, Maucaub was going to design a "secured" or "SSN" approved ASSS. Maybe you should look into something such as that...

That so makes me think of Microsoft Certification.

from http://www.sscx.net/asss/userguide.html
Quote:
Once a module is loaded into the server, it has full access to the server's data, including player IP addresses, machine id's, scores, and passwords. It can also access files on the machine it is running on, and make network connections, and it can easily crash or deadlock the server. Python is a safe language, so a module written in Python can't crash the server. It can still deadlock it, though, and still has arbitrary access to the system. Thus, admins and sysops should be careful to only load modules from sources that they trust.

I don't think asss could damage a system or other users files without being run as root.

Did you know that mervbot can be used to inject viruses and other malware onto peoples computers? Maybe you won't trust your plugin writers ever again.

That's not entirely true on a *nix System, When running a program from a user, it is locked into a shell(terminal), it doesnt have access to root priviledges, like a windows system.. when I run an asss server.. it is chrooted, jailed.. and locked into directories
