A friend of mine will either be purchasing one of these to host zones:

I want to know if the 100GB transfer/m or 200gb transfer/m would be enough to host zones. And if so, would these dedicated servers work well for hosting SubGame zones?

Subgame is meant to be run on Windows and I doubt you can run it with an emulator (of course you could try).

For Linux systems ASSS might be a better choice.

As for your question about the data limit, I think 200Gb is enough for a zone with average population (I have no idea how much bandwidth those servers take, this is just a guess icon_razz.gif ).

This better but 200GB aint enought but you can ask for a bandwidth upgrade. Is your friend know what he is doing?

Are you sure it's not enough?
It's not like he's going to run some EG / TW populated zone, but yes he could ask for a bandwidth upgrade when it's up and getting more players.

Priit did the conversion on how much bandwidth TW uses:

500 * 60 * 60 *24 *31 * 2KB = 2678400000 KB = 2615625 MB = 2554 GB = 2.49 TB
Go back to school tongue.gif
In reality there isn't 500 people in TW all the time indeed, so we are using 1.4..1.5 TB/mo

And considering that I doubt any privately hosted zone would get more than 50/60 max at any one time..

I wonder how much bandwidth SSCX uses; anyone know if Yarekim has ever said?

Is that why every host specification you posted there says "RedHat Linux"?

200 gb is plenty to start with. Even 100 gb, as I highly doubt you'll get that many players on the server. In my honest opinion though, the current servers are fine. I don't believe we really need anymore servers as the current ones are able to support all the good zones. I could care less about the crappy or first timer zones. They can host themselves on their computers or use subspace's "play offline" mode.

There's really plenty of space on the good SSC servers for zones that do not suck
