Post subject: Connecting to an asss server.
[Edit - Revised problem/troubleshooting]

- security.so missing from 1.1.7 source-only distrobution.
- security.so from 1.1.7 full distrobution doesn't work with 1.1.7 source-only (confirm?).
- Everything is working fine with 1.1.7 full.

Thank you for the suggestions below.

Oh hmm.... I recieved an error when trying to load up security:contenc so I disabled it. Then wondered why I couldn't connect!

Hmm.... security:security isn't loading... unrecoverable error.

I didn't get this a year ago.

Do you have a recent security.so?

Yes that could be a problem. I thought it was distributed with asss? Anybody have the module?

I do not download binaries as it's a waste of my time since I compile it anyway. Might be good to include ONE binary module with that source-only distribution.

Just a suggestion before I continue on...

I didn't have a problem the last time I compiled asss.

The modules in the security file are dependant on other modules too. So if a module gets a significant change (fx: another function added to the interface) the internal version number is incremented. So there is a 'version' mismatch between the security modules you have and the rest of the server.

As a quick (and questionable) fix you could make a diff against the last working source and set all the version numbers back to how they were.

The thing is, I compiled the 1.1.7 source version, then downloaded the 1.1.7 binary distro too, unpacked the security.so, and used that.

i'll try starting over with just the 1.1.7 binaries+source, then compile the source..

Nope

I'll have to wait til I get a response, but it seems to be that the source-only distrobution has some problems with security.so distributed with the binary+source distribution. I compiled the binary+source distro myself, and it worked.

1.1.7 binary+source distribution compiles and runs security.so fine, but if you combine 1.1.7 binary+source distro's security.so and the 1.1.7 source-only compile then it doesn't work? Confirm? Grelminar?

I'm not sure why this would happen if they're truly the same distribution O.o;

MGB updated 1.1.7 without actually incrementing version numbers.

Perhaps he didn't update either the binary+source or source distributions? ( That is, one, but not the other )

Whoa, what? I don't touch any of the Linux end of the server, even though thats how I've played with it more lately. I just try to make sure the contenc.dll for windows is working.

If it isn't, just give me a message here on the forums, or via email, and I can pop out another one. Anyways, isn't security.c opened up completely now that the continuum part is keep in its own so/dll?

there is no security source in 1.1.7. Or perhaps MGB lets on that he DOES have the Continuum checksum! :d

This is enough proof for me that MGB has security.c and enc_cont.c (but this doesn't necessarily mean he can make a continuum client).
