Trash Talk - 1TB of email sounds like a plan

They are offering 1TB worth of email. And I'm in a nice little group in which we attempt to check out if their offer is true. My spam address is ilikebigfiles@youvegotpost.com, so feel free to spam that with as much large files as you'd like. If you'd also like to join in the little experiment, just post the address below here, and I'll get the SA Goons to send you some nice large files to waste space with.

How can they possibly offer 1 terabyte to millions of people (potentially 1 exabyte)? They must be counting on most people coming no where near that much space, and maybe some compression. I'm also guessing their bandwidth is such that downloading large files that are in your inbox would be painful.

I'm sure they're guessing no one would use a TB; but there again, who knows... there are people out there who like to push the limits biggrin.gif

Well, we are trying, and according to their help forums, the admins actually want people to try, for now at least. Earlier today, I was pulling full speed on my cable modem downloading. Now, I'm peaking at 60k.

Hehe, and my inbox is already half a gig.

116ms ave, pfft.
Edit:

Edit2: How about making a macro that just forwards the same message to yourself over and over, that way you only need to receive or upload 1 massive attachment once.

Oh, we got ourselves banned from that place. I was upto 1.5 gig before I went to sleep too. Anyways, now they are at 20meg. Oh, and their admin is very nice and smart.

Hello,

Thank you for your request for a YGP account.

I see you have a Gmail account.

We are not inviting people to test our system. What purpose would you require the YGP account, given the fact that you have Gmail account?

My Gmail account is full. Until you or your competitors offer petabyte storage accounts I'll have to stick to you guys. Seems pretty cool.

Sincerely,

Mark (I've Got Post)

Amy wrote:
You cannot use "gmail@" any of our domain names.

Your account has been deleted. Gmail is another product/service which is not associated with YGP.

Thanks,

Amy

Yeah, they sort of are going under right now, threating legal action against a bunch of people. Pretty amusing right now, you should read through the SA thread about it. Very good read.

Because the lady running the site swears everyone in the world is out to destroy her site, and thus started to delete random accounts/emails for no reason.

But it was fun why it lasted. Was cool to be in on this from the start, getting a bunch of neat flash and mp3s. Ironically, everything I got in the emails (and the few files I sent to others) were all in the public domain (ie: not illegal to share).

And then it goes on about RFC's and stuff.

In tribute of the late Akai: le tits.

I'd like to point out the neowin.net forums are useless, they have disabled horizontal scrolling and resizing of their tables, so all the text runs out the side and off the page, they are using invision.

I tried to register for a new account last night but it kept saying "that username is reserve" or something like that no matter what I tried.

I also did a bit of research last night and found out that the MPC Trust, who owns Bavadarge Limited (DBA You've Got Post!), also owns their webhost (3105.com) and officialspin.com. Interesting.

Edit: Whoops, just discovered a goon had already found this out. Still interesting though. icon_biggrin.gif

You can't register because your ISP is on the blacklist which was generated from all the deleted accounts.

Well after emailing their tech support, who denied they ever had a problem, I tried again and it worked... sorta. Still never got a validation email.

Also, they've totally rewritten their TOS so it looks more official but it's still worded like crap icon_biggrin.gif

So Tiscali my ISP is blocked? Does this mean no Tiscali users can register?

If you read around page 20 of the SA thread I think it is all explained there.

And how can you get a validation email if you are creating your first email account ever? (This is hypothetical, not aimed directly at you cyan). I heard they cut it to 20mb anyway.

lol, it looks like they were bought out by AOL icon_smile.gif Nice. Wonder how much they got icon_smile.gif When you click on the link, it sends it to aol.com, or am i mistaken?

Also, MGB, you said something about your group investing things, and i was wondering if they could investigate something for me icon_smile.gif To see if it actualy works. Talk to me, on aim or yahoo, or something if possible

Yeah.

It now Redirects straight to the AOL Site. I cant find anything about it on AOLs site though. Maybe there trying to keep it quiet that they bought out a dodgy company.

just goes to show why one shouldnt make offers they cant deliver on. But just about every large corp is just full of lies and deciet like that....so it doesnt really suprise. So if AOL owns it, ide say its the dodgy company that bought the other dodgy company.
Cyan~Fire - Thu Aug 05, 2004 5:28 pm

Probably AOL did not buy the company, they bought the domain.
