Ive never used ASSS before, just the normal subgame. So i was wondering, whats difference between the subgame and ASSS? Are there any distinct advantages from using one instead of the other?

Less bandwidth used as you don't need bots sitting in each arena (you need to send position packets even if you are in spec I think, for subgame anyway). Also the staff can be controlled a lot more, restricting ?commands and such.

The point of ASSS is that once it's "complete", we'll have a server WITH source code. Subgame, being an EXE, requires serious hacking to change/add features.

The entire SSCX-A Hyperspace system is built on ASSS.

The advantage is this: Subgame was made a long, long time ago. The one you use today has been hacked, manually, by Priit to add in all the features. This doesn't always turn out for the best, because adding features to something that is already inefficent doesn't help much.

ASSS was created completely from the users of Continuum. It was designed for Continuum. Adding extra features into Continuum that require server changes will be many times easier, and anyone can do it.

Say you want to change the language your zone uses for commands? With subgame, you better be pretty good at editing exes. With ASSS, you just browse the souce a bit, and change the command names and the outputed text to whatever language you want.

Say you want to add a feature, like only one person per team can be in a certain ship. With subgame, this required you to create a bot that had to force people into the correct ships. This is inefficent, slow, and caused lots of headaches. With ASSS, you can play around with the source a bit, and with about 10 lines of code or so, you can add this feature in a way in which it is impossible for a user to go into the wrong shiptype, without harming the user at all.

So use all *

or modify the command manager (or wherever it acutally resides) to use a different prefix.

Continuum has one of the greatest abilitys ever, it can become many games, ASSS is just another step, its easier to do things with modules instead of bots and some things can be changed for the better tongue.gif
I think ?goat should be added.
