Ski Free
Download Me!

Go shareware from the 16bit generation! I recently felt like finding old files from long ago, and one of them was SkiFree, a kickass old game from Chris Pirih from 1991. This is listed as version 0.2.7, the newest I could find. The object of the game is simple: pick one of two paths, and get the highest score for it.

As I know a bunch of you have little else to do, I figured a nice game that is under 120k in size would be perfect. Fits nicely on floppy disks, USB key chains, or downloadable from any school/work computer and plays nicely on any machine.

So, go ahead and post your scores. Don't forget to include which path you went down, Slalom, Free-style, or Tree Slalom. Winner of each will get a prize. As to what, its a secret (I havn't picked them yet), but its super-special, and you'll love it.

I remember that game from forever ago... at one point didn't it come with win 95? I could be wrong, I just know back when I had 95 it was on it.

I think it came with some kind of game pack for Win95

So does Nethack, and I know which I'd choose =P

Is this the game where the Snow Monster eats you at the end?

Bah, just get Putty, and SSH to a computer for Nethack. Much better. I play Nethack off my home computer all the time at school labs.

Correct.

There is a bug in that game that lets you get a basicly limitless score.

There are all sorts of neat things in that game. If you jump over a leafless tree, it starts to burn.

Hit a dog repeatedly and it will leave you a present.

Walk uphill over a stump while holding down the numpad 0, and it will turn into a mushroom.

There was another, but I forgot it.

You don't even need Putty, windows telnet will do.
You just can't use the alt- shortcuts for the # commands.

Did you ever ascend? tongue.gif

Putty + screen = pure sex in linux form. Telnet sucks. Encryption is very nice, as is the fact of allowing compression (nice since my home connection is cable modem) and port forwarding. So encryption, plus compression, plus port forwarding is very, very nice.

So if I want to use VNC on my main machine (Win2k), I know that it is a secure connection. Plus, this allows me to not allow VNC connections from WAN side at all, thus keeping my main computer nice and safe.

And no, I suck ass in nethack. I started played it on my WinCE machine (640x480 on a 9.4" touch screen). Fun as hell. My best game, I got to the vibrating square, but sadly, one of the required peices (go spoilers!) that I needed was somehow destroyed (hint: don't kill Vlad over water/lava/etc). Thus I went around killing as much as I could, trying to piss of my god, etc. I believe I died by sacing a black unicorn on my aligned alter, which caused the god to summon some minons to kill me (he failed all the other ways to instanta-kill me), and they were just too much for me.

What was very amusing about that game was I polyed my cat or something into an Arch-Lich, which really helped around L10 or so when I did it. That bitch got huge, something like 1200 hps or what not. Sadly, I had to genocide him, because he dropped down some huge hole, and I rushed to get to him, but I was unable to drop down enough levels fast enough, so he turned on me. He almost kicked my ass too.

I think that game came with Windows Entertainment Pack/WEP, I've still got the retail version lying around somewhere. I didn't know about the mushroom thing though.

Obviously Putty is far superior, but my point was that if you are restricted you don't need to download anything to play it remotely.

The Invocation Artifacts can't be destroyed you know tongue.gif If you'd frozen the water/lava (wand of cold or whatever) the artifact would jump to the top (you can't bury them). Or you could take a swim for it.

slalom: 31.45
tree slalom: 49.17

I tried the mushroom thing, didn't have to hold numpad 0.
