What is this, and how does it come into play w/ the server/game itself?

-- if 2 people are logged into the server with the same IP, 2 different timezonebais', then does it just mean 2 different machines?

Time Zone Bias is where you are in the world. For example, -630 is somewhere in Australia, while 0 should be GMT.

If two people have the same IP, two TZBs, they are probably behind a NAT, two or more machines, 1 ip. Its not used with aliasing, but orientation, good for demographics controls.

actually it can be used in aliasing, as it can help differentiate people with the same machine id (although it's so trivial to change you couldn't use it for hard proof)

So, if i read this right:: most likely if they had the same IP at the same time like 2 users logged in, both had the same ip but different TimeZoneBias, they'd prob still be on the same network, just cause of the NAT?

Usually they will have the same TZB, as they are in the same time zone.

but two people on the internet shouldn't have the same IP, correct?

That's why there is IP v6, which uses 128bit addresses (some people have noticed we are going to run out of IP addresses to allocate).

Yes yes, but if there are 2 people on the internet at the same time w/ the same IP .. doesn't that cause problem for identifying a user? o.O

Oh yes and to make sure I didnt sound confused, I've heard the military has begun using it (the new IP system, for w/e reasons; and is still being developed for the Internet2 .. I forget the URL but Penn State was one of the partners of it...)

If two people on the internet are using the same IP, it's called normal.

If you are IDing a user only by his IP, you are making a mistake. Thats what usernames and passwords are for. And cookies in the case of webbrowsers.

Well yes, if they're behind a router, but if they're not, then yeah that's messed up.

NAT will make all the computers on a network share the same IP, as the outside world sees it.

Multiple computers with the same IP may be due to dynamic IP addresses.

ipv6 I believe is in use, Im not sure of the specifics, but I believe they present themselves as ipv4. Such as, they _can_ be 1023.1.1.1 (or whatever the hell is the size of ipv6) but are currently 255.1.1.1. Dont quote me on that sentence.

IPv6 will allow for 2^128 or 340,282,366,920,938,500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (340 undecillion) individually addressable devices. That's enough for each person to have an IP for each cell of their body. It is thought that basically every object on Earth will get an IP address. People, animals, appliances, cars, clothing, food, etc.

Yea I've heard that statistic about how everything will get an IP address.. thats all I want for my birthday icon_cool.gif *lol*

But okay::I'm not talking about username/password/cookies.. I'm talking about 2 users logged into the same zone, with the same IP but different TimeZoneBias' ...

So the question is...

Are they or are they not the same computers on the same network? Probability: Yes?...

Actually, they did an estimate, that every single atom in our solar system could have around 14 address or something like that. Maybe 4, I forget.
I give it till 2040 before they are so stupid, that we start to run out of addresses because they figured every small countries needed 1/200th of all the addressable space.

i was told IPv6 would allow every square metre of the earth to have 1000 computers

Yea, if a two users have the same IP, but diferent other information, then its likely they are networked. If the TZBs are diferent, one if probably set wrong on the clock.
