General Questions - Problem

I am on a LAN - i am trying to create a server, the billing connects fine, and it even appears on zone list, but after i add it to my zones, it has a ping of 0, and i can't connect, which in my mind doesnt make sense because i just downloaded it.

Any idea?

If you right-click on the zone name, it displays the zone's IP address. Its probably showning your internet IP address.

Three ways to fix this: A) Run your own directory server on the LAN, or B) manually edit everyone's zone.dat to be the LAN ip instead, or C) Forward those ports to the server, but this may cause more lag as it will go through more router(s), but usually not much (maybe just your ISP in worst case).

Alright, I am just looking for a quick simple solution so i can start working on settings, i'd like for people outside of lan to be able to connect, which would you suggest?

Try serching this forum more. the answer is here in the forum, as this qestion has been asked "100" times.

In Continuum, when you click on the zones button and the zones window opens up click the button "add custom." type in a name (doesnt matter what name) then in the "IP address" type the ip of the server on your LAN. the "port" has to be the same as the port setting in you server.ini. click OK and you can now go in to your zone.

For people to access the zone outside of your lan, read this. im not going to explain it here its different on every router but that is the best guide.

Is this per ISP? I am forwarding my ports yet I must connect via local IP. When the IP is set to my internet IP I get like 2 pings out of my server, then it shows as down.

Is there a way to like ss://machinename thing within the network, maybe with a DNS server on one of the machines?

the ping across your DSL router to ur server is like >10ms any and the lag would be coming from ur isp if anything.

Yes, i looked at this yesterday. i think it is a pointer record or (A) host thing. i dont quite know but stuff around with one. i dont think u can get the ss:// tho.
