Use of 1337 speak had two reasons: A. Hosts have bots that scan around for keywords, they had to be tricked lest your site would be found and consequentialy be shut down, yet you still needed to allow those who were in the know-in that you did want to enter to find your site. B. Early on email services charged by size of message so like you now have ingenuitive(sp?) text messaging evolving on cell phones, 1337 speak saved on bytes in emails as it allowed you to express more in less characters, it was more fund-wise that way. With the death of the BBS era by the evolution-revolution of apranet and coming of the WWW Inet. most of the hackers relocated onto IRC, but it is just not the same anymore. With gifs, photoshop and now flash, ascii art has been forsakened, no more shortkeys to access areas... a tradition lost, a legacy burried. warez d00d, keke, hail the courier! At any rate, 1337 speak never was an actual speech. Those who DID spoke 1337 non stop as if it was a fluat language were wannabees and now-a-days newbies who try to impress people as if they're vets (yet, again, vets do not speak 1337 unless they're real llamahs). 1337 speak was primarily used as said above, in small quantities, such as the notorius "war3z", it never was completly converted onto "\\/4/23$" or something. It was the gamer community that sprung it out blowen onto something that it was not, or not meant to be. So ussually when you encounter people who go 1!|<3 7|=|!5 or speak LiKe ThiS they are generaly little kids looking for attention thinking they're being cool doing it. Does anyone have a spare 14400 modem and the terminate proggy? ![]() |
