How easy is it to upgrade from 1.1.0 to 1.1.2?

I really need to know because I host the SSZ zones and I need to upgrade.

I have modules too, will those be affected in any way?

Wow, I didn't realize anyone was using it for real zones yet. Cool!

Anyway, it should just be a matter of installing the new binaries or recompiling, and then starting it again. Your modules might need to be recompiled against the newer headers. The only settings changes that I can remember were to the flag stuff: NeutRadius got dropped, and 6-7 new settings got added. The defaults should be reasonable, though.

Also, you might want to try it on a non-public zone first. I haven't tested some of the new stuff yet. And keep a copy of the older version around in case you have to revert back for some reason.

I noticed that "W*TcH DooM" has been running asss as "SSS" for 23 days 18 hours approx (with ?uptime), but I guess it's not counted as a "real zone" as there doesn't seem to be any pop.

Yes, I use it for real zones. And "SSZ Crap Dueling" has been up for 6 days... and I have no intention of shutting down except maybe to upgrade to the newest ASSS, which should only take a minute after I test it and get it working on SSZ Beans, which I can take offline publicly and test it privately.

Although... I could make a new zone called "SSZ Test Zone"....... icon_biggrin.gif

I will be using it as soon as I get a windows version I can give to my host.

Dr. Brain is obsessed with penguins, which suggests he uses Linux, yet he defends Windows and wants a Windows version of ASSS... now I understand you might not want to be logged in to Linux all the time, but it's just weird...

My host doesn't have Linux.

Oh. icon_biggrin.gif

Well, are you sure your host is going to want to use ASSS?

Yes, because the bot it will be replacing crashes every day, and he has to restart it, and my zone CANNOT function without the bot. Come to SSCI Hyperspace when you get a chance, and it will become obvious why.

It also solves serveral other non-critical problems that have been nagging at us sysops for a while.

So have you made a module that sends custom settings to the client? If so are you going to release the source or is there already enough info in the latest asss distro to do this easily anyway?

I am planning to to a complete port of the current bot first, then later replace the prizing with custom settings. I doubt it will be open source.

I'd like to re-activate this topic. I finally upgraded, and guess what has happened??

I decided to do a complete re-make of ASSS, and delete the old copy.

Now, when I try to run the bin/asss file I get to loading C module core:logman then it crashes. Please help :-/

Update: I have gotten a step further: here is the error now:

Loading modules...
I <cmod> loading C module 'logman' from 'core'
Unrecoverable error (5): Error in loading module ''funky:auth_prefix'

I was about to say D'OH!!! Boy: don't I feel stupid, but then:
I <cmod> loading C module 'logman' from 'core'
and no message after. Is it set to not log messages?

Ok now, even further (I discovered it WAS just hiding those log msgs)...

The thing will not load. It shows green, the server is running good and all, yet when you connect it sits for 5 mintutes... then ASSS crashes.

I tried taking out core:logman so I could see the hidden log msgs and this is what I see:
Code: Show/Hide
asss 1.1.3 built at Sep 18 2003 02:06:26
Loading modules...
I <cmod> loading C module 'mainloop' from 'core'
I <cmod> loading C module 'config' from 'core'
I <cmod> loading C module 'playerdata' from 'core'
I <cmod> loading C module 'lagdata' from 'core'
I <cmod> loading C module 'net' from 'core'
E <cmod> error loading module 'net'
