ASSS Questions - Some Server suggestions

It would be cool if the server could force the client to change arenas, so a bot could move players from one arena to another. This would be useful if you wanted to make a zone where the actual size of the map was 4 arenas by 4 arenas. If you moved into a blackhole or some other identifier it warped you to another arena. This would open up alot of possibilities for zones that currently would not be possible due to the size of arenas.

Second Suggestion:

Would it be possible to have the server set the nrg level of a ship, or the number of specials, without using *prize? This would for example allow you to create regeneration points on the map, where ships would not regenerate by default, but would only do so over that point. You might also be able to manipulate the nrg to simulate armor or something?

This would also allow settings where players could customize their ships. You could buy armor, better weapons, specials, etc and a bot would autoset your custom ship config when you entered the zone. Currently to do this you would have to do 50 *prizes, which would not be practical.

What do you think?

50 *prizes seems to work fine for me. Check out SSCI Hyperspace if you arent convinced.

asss can move playes from arena to arena. I've set up a simple test that uses safe zones to trigger warps to specific locations in other arenas, and it works very well. For various reasons, safe zones work better as triggers that most other things, including wormholes.

I know of no way for a server to set the client's energy, unfortunately. One thing that might be possible with a new server is to set all ships to zero recharge by default, and then send a temporary, custom settings packet when they move into a particular area. Then send back the regular settings when they leave. That sort of thing would be much better if it were done on the client side, though.

Is that because of the fact that the client sends a position packet opon entering a safe zone?

Correct. The server doesn't know if you entered the wormhole or if you just portaled/inserted/attached around it. Plus, the client sets the "safe" bit in the packet to help speed things along too.
