General Questions - Subgame stalling XP's explorer? not only I. CypherJF - Tue Aug 19, 2003 11:41 am Post subject: Subgame stalling XP's explorer? not only I.
I'm not exactly sure where I'd go to post this, so if a mod wants to lock/delete/move this is cool.
Does anyone else notice that subgame2 stalls XP's explorer when you go to navigate through it. It's not only on my machine that this is done, but as soon as I shut down subgame2 it unstalls the Explorer window and let's me on my way...
I thought I heard that they had been fixing something w/ NT and subgame or something?
Any insights.. as far as i remember, this never happened back when I hosted in subspace 1.34, w/e the subgame is on the SS CD...
Thanks again

This is because subgame runs on a sleep/loop method. In other words, it works, then sleeps for very small ammount of time. That small ammount of time equals out to about nothing, so it eats a LOT of CPU usage, fast.
Two ways to fix it:
For NT systems, open Task Manager, and set subgame to low priority.
In server.ini, set [CPU] SleepTime=0 to something a bit more than nothing (default). 5 or 10 can help without causing much of a delay.
Start to learn to use ASSS, a linux (and ported to windows also) server software, that instead of sleeping/working, it actually waits for packet to come before it works. So, each cycle on ASSS actually does something, while each cycle on subgame might have a chance that it does something.

Well I'm running it on Win2000 with a 1.2gHz processor and it uses 0% of my CPU, when there's no human players in. Of course it goes up when I'm actually doing stuff.
Server.ini settings:
[CPU]
LoopDelay=0
ProcessMaxTime=4
SleepPerIteration=0
SlowIterationWarningLevel=100
SleepTime=5
