I want to have enw ships in my zone without the rolls to decrease filesize of the lvz. Will it work if i just upload ships.bm2 without the rolls? You know, it's actually incorrect that the ships roll. Because in space, with 0 gravity, the ships shouldnt rotate in the third dimension. Only aircrafts roll.

If you just include ships.bm2 in a lvz the clients will still use their default roll images. I don't know if it is possible to turn off the use of the roll images.
I always use this trick: Copy and paste the normal rotate images without roll effect to the roll images. If the roll images are the same as the normal ones you still have roll effect but you won't notice it.

um...actually aircraft often roll in space, they just don't very fluenty yet - we haven't gotten that advanced

and yes, if you add any ship image with .lvz, the rolling images are disabled automatically

add ships.gif, all ships now have no rolling images unless you add rolling images as well

add ship1.gif, ship 1 now has no rolling images (ships 2-8 still do)

etc

Are you talking about Asss or something? As I added just ships.bm2 it showed the standard rolling images. That looked very uggly.

I think it's more of a client thing.
If you add ships.bm2 to your graphics folder and have rolls enabled, then obviously you are going to get rolls and your ship set.
It seems to work ok for me with ctm37/38, although I noticed that you need all the rolls for rolling to work (one popular zone had all but warbird rolls and it just bloated the lvz because ctm wouldn't use the others even though they were there).

I put in a .lvz with ships.gif, rolls became disabled

if you did the same with ships.bm2 and saw rolling images then maybe it has to do with .bm2, since those are the standard

just use .gif - smaller and no rolls icon_smile.gif

hey u know what, the first time i tried the ships.gif, it worked, but then i entered the zone again, and the ships started rolling all of the sudden. Then i made another lvz with ships.BM2 (notice: BM2, not GIF, and by the way, BM2 was much smaller in size than GIF) and that one worked for sure. I dont think continuum recognizes files like GIF, JPG, WAV or MP3...

This is really strange. Today I ran my server again. Though I didn't change any settings it didn't make use of rolling images any more.

fudle, as a general rule, .gif compresses to a smaller filesize, but .bmp can often be smaller, it depends on the colors and other things

Continuum supports .wav, .bmp, .gif, .jpg, and .png just fine.

.bm2 and .wa2 are EXACTLY the same as .wav and .bmp, save yourself the trouble and just use .bmp and .wav

I will test this one some more to be absolutely sure and post again later.

further testings supports my earlier claim

if you are getting different results, make sure you don't have any old files laying around in your zone folder

post s'more if you encounter bizarreness
