OK, a very long time ago, i made a ship set maker... it wasn't much of a success... It didn't work with XP, bla bla bla... it just sucked... I improved myself with programming... and i was wondering if someone would still be interested in a ship set maker... and not one that just only rotates your ship, but also adds special effects etcetera... a list with wanted functions:

* Sort of 3D images, so it will also automatically generate the rolls, and it will be able to use light, and automatically use that on your ships.

* Euhm, just basic function, like the rotation.

* In-program editing of your ship, so it won't have problems with incompatibility of versions of windows... You'll still be able to import it from files, but when that doesn't work, you can just edit it yourself...

* And lots more of your suggestions...

When your interested, please post a reply, to tell me if your interested... don't want to make it for nothing[/list]

How about split a ships.bm2 into separate ship#.bm2's, also optionally cropping the ship sets (incase a certain ship is smaller than 36x36)?
And it will have to be able to at least import .bmp, .gif, .jpg and .png image types (some sort of law surrounding .gif creation I think).

What do you mean by "cropping the ship sets" and is the ship#.bm2 supported? I'm not sure :S <<< feels embarassed.

It could be quite a problem with importing others than bmp... I should find some source for that, because there's no way i could implement them myselves...

For a halfsize ship the user specifies 18x18 (36x36 being the default) as the ship size, then the program creates a ship#.bm2 based on the original image, but smaller.
An 18x18 square is copied from the center of each 36x36 ship rotation and placed into a new image.
The function does not resize the image, it copies parts of it to a new one.

I should think so. That's why I suggested the other file formats, because 38 can support them.

Sounds good. I could use it a lot.

We need programs that allow the size changing of ships (either bigger or smaller). Then as you do each ship individually, you could save each ship as a ship#.bm2. That would be appreciated and convienient.

Hi,

umm... for a newbie a shipset maker allows the creation of different ships for the game? colours (colors) and shapes changed from the defaults.

if so why do you want to be able to change the size of the ships?

Would this not allow players will end up going around in 1 pixel size ships that noone can hit.

actually an all black ship would be cool..

anyway i'm still working on maps and tilesets at the moment but will eventually get to shipsets and a tool that lets me create custom ships for ops and moderators sounds mighty fine.

just my opinion

dontec.

p.s. Could you release the source when your sick of supporting it.

Consider me interested... I like the features you've been talking about ...the implementation of good looking rolls would be at the top of my list!

Because it allows for different forms of combat, as well as strategies, in one zone.

Who would play in a zone like that anyhow?

I think it should be optional when saving, whether you want individual cropped ship#.bm2's, or an entire set like ships.bm2.

I am using 3ds max for 3D models and rendering, and then a custom 'shipset maker' coded by my friend Miro - he is a programmer.

Within max I create a model, lighting and materials (/textures)
Set up simple animation for rolls
Render an animation sequence (into BMP)
Import it into 'shipset maker' icon_lol.gif
Save as default filenames (wbroll.bm2 etc...)
Convert in Photoshop to SS colors

that's it icon_wink.gif

and now, what was the topic of this thread?

doesn't matter, don't think the author is coming back

think you could make this program public domain?

oh and you know you might save some file size (download time) by using .jpg, .gif or even .png

I use bmp when I want to test the shipset in the zone I don't own - e.g. can't edit lvz on server.

Yes I think I could post it soon.
