I am just curious about something. Now unless I have missed a program that can do it in the Misc Apps section (entirely likely, as my internet is being a whore and taking forever to load pages, so i havnt been able to go through all posts) - why is it that most map making programs seem stuck in the tradition of using one tileset for maps? It seems to me that it would make sense to allow for the use of multiple tilesets via lvz.
To elaborate, you have one tileset as a primary, like normal. Then, allow for the option to include secondary, tertiary, etc tilesets as lvz. So you add another tileset, and then it simply places the lvz for the tile overtop of the lovely "special" blank tile. For flyover, under, etc it can just modify the lvz elements (AfterShips, etc) to suit. Yes, it would make the filesize a bit bigger for the lvz'd tilesets, as it would need to include the blank tile as well as the lvz, but I'm sure some people (like me) would find it useful. Plus the flyovers and under tiles wouldnt actually need to be part of the lvl file anymore, as those ones would be just lvz...so it sort of evens out.
Not only would this allow for much more diverse looking levels with a minimum of effort, it would also allow for the quick placement of other special tiles (absorbant, etc etc) without having to manually lvz the wall over it.
If I did miss a program that can do that then by all means disregard this.
Cheers,

There was some talk of adding this to DCME on "the other forum". I don't think it happened and personally I don't think it's a good idea. It could kill fps on some computers. I would suggest instead take screenshots of your map, then edit that. This way you get larger images around 512x512. Also there's a 256 image limit in lvz (across all files). _________________ ss news |

256 DIFFERENT images limit... That's not the same thing.
Smong is right, we've been suggested something like that for DCME already, and I was thinking of having some kind of alternative 'tileset', but they wouldn't necessarly be tiles, they could be any size, and a combination of mapobjects/tiles. _________________ (Insert a bunch of dead links here) |
