Problem:

After 2 weeks of testing everything, I cannot find out why my computer wont work. The main problem thats wrong with it is that when my Monitor is plugged in through my onboard video via VGA adapter, the monitor stands in "standby" mode (like it does when you turn off your tower and the monitor is still on). Another symptom I found out, is that my computer does not get to POST.

Testing:

- Ive tested my monitor by plugging it into this computer, it works fine, so the Monitor is not the problem.

- Ive brought my power supply to a store to test the voltage being put out, it puts out 480w max.

- Ive unplugged everything except for CPU, mobo and PSU (no ram) to test the POST, and i got no beeps.

- Ive removed the CMOS battery for about 2 hours and put it back in, still no go.

- Im testing 2 brand new factory sealed CPUs (Celeron d 331 and the 352 (2.66ghz and 3.2ghz)) both socket 775. And 2 brand new factory sealed Motherboards (Gigabyte GA-945GZM S2 and Biostar 945GZ Micro 775SE). Both micro atx 775 sockets.

- Cpu fans get hot on startup. (Thermal stuff is on and theres not too much and not too little)

- Socket pins on motherboards are all straight.

Tried alot of other things, just cant think of them. But pretty much, NOBODY knows what to do. Ive googled for about 5 hours.

For a computer to POST, it needs ram installed. At least one stick.

You've mentioned you've done different test cases. You have 3 motherboards, and 3 processors. The old+old doesn't work, and new+old doesn't work, and new+new doesn't work. Your RAM may have taken a dive with the rest of your system. With new PSU, new motherboard, and new CPU, test each stick of ram in the system one at a time, and see if any cause your system to POST. If none do that, try asking a friend to turn their computer off and either test one of their RAM sticks in your old+old and new+new, or test your maybe-dead RAM in their system one at a time.

You need to get your list of what parts are good/bad narrowed down by testing one part at a time in a known working system. Give a list of the actual combinations of test states you've done, listing which parts are known good and which parts are unknown.
  • Power supply - Dead, already replaced
  • CPU - Unknown state
  • Motherboard - Unknown state, most likely fried
  • RAM - Unknown state

Power Supply - Good, tested
Celeron D 2.66ghz (331) - Unknown state, Not compatible with biostar motherboard (Supposedly)
Celeron D 3.2ghz (352) - Good, tested, compatible with both mobos
Ram - Unknown state
Biostar Motherboard - Maybe DOA (Highly doubtful)
Gigabyte Motherboard - Maybe DOA (Highly doubtful)

The only thing i dont get, is that what is the chance of 2 motherboards being DOA straight out of the factory. My Mobos dont have LED lights on the mobo itself, so i cant really test mobos.

As far as ram goes, ive been told by ALOT of people that the computer doesnt need ram to POST, that without the ram, you should get a shitload of nasty beeps, signaling that the ram is missing. And those beeps i dont get when i try to start without them. Ive also tried to start the comp with all possible combinations.

I only have 2 mobos and 2 processors btw.

I tried all the combinations with each mobo, processor, and sticks of ram, all give same symptom. Also, i have no extra computer, nor i have a friend with a computer that will let me tamper in it. Also, all the friends ive got have old computers, so chances are, none will be a 775 socket.

"Your RAM may have taken a dive with the rest of your system."

When could it have taken a dive? This ram isnt the old ram that was in my burned out mobo. Its brand new ddr2 ram.

Can it possibly be that im just the most unlucky person in the world and got 2 DOA of something?

Also, just to let you know, ive tested all this stuff inside and outside of the case.

If your computer is not beeping when your ram is out, something is seriously wrong. Like MGB said, probably your motherboard.

Straight out of the factory though? That is odd. Where did you buy it at? On sale or anything? Liquidation?

My bro's pc beeped when it didn't have ram in it. Maybe you can find something simple and small off ebay to help you test it? You can always sell it later for about the same price.

Newegg's return policy is very good. Give them a call, tell them your situation, and they'll give you a new one.
