in cfg,
mine: teammaxmines=

it says range is 0-36000

however, when you enter values > 1000, 16 is ingame max.

I WANT MORE MINES!
something i missed?

yeah, but when that is what limits you, the message is different
something like 'Your ship cannot lay more mines' vs 'Team has too many mines'

or something like that
I'm guessing he gets the 'team has too many' message

The team max is actually 256 (or worse 128 depending on the coding).

Team max for mines is limited by the protocol from 0 to 255. Template.sss has most of the min/max values removed from settings because Continuum doesn't let you set higher than the suggested min/max, so they were removed from most settings. Per player, the maximum is also from 0 to 255 as set by the protocol.
