Does anyone ever loose focus on the projects they're tinkering with? I mean, I've ran my forum for four years now, it's by no means any where near as popular as "Server Help," nor do I expect it to be as it is, but when I try to work on it as of late I just get to wondering "Why am I even bothering?"
I don't mind keeping my site up, but I've been for a while now trying to just get something off the ground with it; however, when I finally get the time to get something going I'm either too sore from page outs, or I just think it is tripe, bullshit even, and I wonder why I'm even bothering myself with it. It's not that I don't enjoy it, but I just get to thinking about the grander scheme of things, and I wonder if it really is for me.
Of course, I only started thinking like this after I started taking my EMT-B classes; I get so stressed out between trying to keep up a C average, and handling the random car wreck, or Fire (Sometimes both.), when the pages come. I dunno, maybe it's the stress? |

yeah, the hardest part for me is having a project that runs more than one day. I mean I can work a whole day on something and be enjoying myself, but when I wake up the next day it's difficult to get that sort of excitement back about it, so I usually move on to something else. I don't think it's a problem with stress. _________________ SubSpace Discretion: A Third Generation SubSpace Client |

I have that same problem lots and lots of times. Alot of projects of mine never got finished because I didn't like finishing them and then I store them somewhere to continue with it some day (which usually never happens).
Hehe I even have some domains for the projects I wanted to do but almost all of them are still unused.
Nah, it's not related to stress I think. _________________

Focus isn't as much of a problem as thinking of a better way to do what I just did overnight. Then you have to fight between redoing the work, or living with the knowledge that you could have done it a much better way.
Current project is undergoing a full redesign.. again. |

I think part of it is stress. When you start things "whats the point" thats different to thinking "i'll look at it tomorrow/later". The first is when you are questioning the value of what you have already done. The second is thinking i have better things to do. i subscribe to the theory you only have so much will power to do stuff. The more stuff you trying to do at the same time the harder it gets to keep it up. So you look for ways to reduce your workload. However you feel guilty about giving stuff up because of the effort you put into it already so you start to think things like "what is the point" to remove/displace this guilt or alternativly because you just feel fed up with all these things hanging over you. _________________ Rediscover online gaming. But for projects that don't have a deadline (ie: hobby project), why not take the extra effort and do it right/better? That's what I've done with every project I can remember making and it's always been worth it in the end. _________________ There are 7 user(s) ignoring me right now. |

I spent so much time trying out new maps, lvz, tiles, settings, creating zones with pure ambition. The problem is that after a while (11 am and i am still awake) I don't even know what's fun anymore, i am burned out..
I have the motherload of unfinished work, continuum related and unrelated. I lose track of what I was trying to accomplish. Many times I force myself to do the entire project in one night. I then goto bed, and when I wake up I can evaluate what i made last night. I usually look at it and say damn.. I made this? Not bad.. But i can do better *DELETE* lol...
I'm going to have to go against the grain here and say that it IS stress. When your building a map and stressing yourself out thinking "this has got to be the best" you really lose grasp of the concept you had when you started.
One thing to keep in mind while developing for subspace is that people will have fun playing on ANYTHING. |

Sometimes you just need to take a break.
I was working on this peice of code before christmas and had an elusive bug. Spent a day trying to work out how to fix it. Came back to it yesterday fixed it in about 2 minutes. |

I'm starting to believe that the "equal parts will power" notion is the right thing, as well as the stress is a major problem. I dunno I think I will give another go at my Pen & Paper.
... Course this is why it's taken me so long to get the comic, and the game, off the ground. |

It's not about focus, it's about ADHD.
Also, sometimes you lose the motivation, need to be in the zone and get hit by the muse to be able to flow with it. |
