I am forced to use AOL Dial, because I have tried to get DSL and cable and they disconnect me after a week and say I am too far away. I have tried to switch over to earthlink and other lower price dial up services, but once I uinstall all of my anti-malware tools that AOL supplies, I seem to get 5 viruses a day that are unseen intill my computer crashes (even though I use the other services firewall, spyware, and anti-virus tool). I am in despret need to get somthing that is faster then a 9k download stream, but keeps me safe. When I had SBC DSL Yahoo for a week it found so much spyware that AOL didn't catch and I loved it. I've been trying to get SBC to push 200 yards of cable to be able to reach me, but no matter what I do they don't care. Dose any body have any suggestions that I could do, please help me. I am tired of this outraguos price and slow stream when I could get DSL for half the price if I moved (No, I'm not moving).

Why would I want to do that? Internet is a open source of unmessured knowledge (Like I ever use it anyways). But maybe if I had somthing faster newb I could learn alot faster, and wouldn't be so annoying and such a idiot to you.

blah-er, firstly, you should stop surfing porn sites, they have spyware downloads on them without your explicit consent .
If you're after a free anti-virus (That is better than some commercial ones!) then i vote for AVG Anti-virus, it is my personal favourite, is updated regularly, and i have found it will detect viruses that are designed to avoid detection by commercial software, another popular one is Avast! anti-virus, but the interface is a little confusing. Spyware, you should try Spybot S & D, not only is this free, it contains many other tools to perform analysis of your PC, such as a process scanner and start-up scanner as well as a utility to monitor potentially harmful changes to vital areas of your system, though i don't use this feature (tea-timer) as it keeps telling me about what it's doing all the time, which can be frustrating, Spybot S & D can also Immunize your system to prevent future infections. Lastly, you could get an adware scanner, though i rarely use mine, there is a free one called Ad-Aware PE which is one of the best. On another note, there are other useful free tools and programs at this page.
As far as your actual ISP is concerned, try an ISP comparison site, perhaps do a search for providers in your area. _________________ Regards,

It's not really the virus problem that made me stop using earthlink's services. It's always on the fritz and it always disconnecting me when I was with Earthlink (and they never do anything about it). I have a pretty good anti virus now though. I was thinking about getting sat., but it's around $80/m for direct tv (the others need you to have their TV service to join (I'm with Direct TV HD)), and I don't really think I want to pay that much for somthing that unstable. |

The only idiot posting on this forum, newb, is the one calling blah-er an idiot. Newb, you're 14? Go out, get a life. Im sure you have some friends that you can go out and watch a movie with, do that. Get a girlfriend (we all know how much time that'll take away from ya ).
He simply asked a question and for some support, you dont need to start a "flame" post. Stfu.
k thnx.

blah-er, if you can still get another dial up, my suggestion is to reformat, and get one. AOL is EVIL. Never trust them.
Cant you also just use the AOL software..and another dial up provider? _________________ I know that I myself cannot do anything, that I will fall, and that I am a sinful man, but I know that I can do ANYTHING through God Almighty, whom strengthens me. |

How is it unstable? The upload speed may be slow but it's better than dial-up. Plus, you said you're out of options for cable/DSL, so why not?
If you want to stick with dial-up, try this.

They charge even more for it.
Like I said I don't want to pay even more for internet, but at the same time I want somthing faster then Dail up. PPC is a good idea (I'de like to know how the acelerator works), but Once you have somthing faster then Dail up it's hard to go back, and since they force me back I wish I could get it some how. I went on SBCglobal.com, and it said I could get it, they keep sending me add saying I can get it, but when I call to ask for it they say "no". I ask them to stop sending ads, but then they think I can get it then, and when I call, they say that order was cancled. I think this is faulse advertising. Dose any boyd have connection to SBC that I can get them to push some cable out? |

Ok, since most of you havent had to deal with the same nonsense that I have as far as broadband goes, you probably dont know the issues with all of your suggestions:
1) Earthlink does not suck
Sure, its $19.99/mo, but they dont require some shit proprietary software, nor do they have any subtexts to their 'unlimited' plan. The only irritating part is their system only allows a constant connection for 12 hours, before requiring a reconnect -- regardless of current line usage.
Access4Less, on the other hand, only allows you to use x number of hours per month on the unlimited plan before your account is put on hold for abuse.
PeoplePC requires you use their craptastic software, which is an utter pain in the ass when it comes to connection sharing and other features that make the internet convenient; though for blah-er, this is probably a good thing.
2) Satellite sucks.
Sure, the speed is comparable to broadband, but the ping time is god awful. I had 2-way satellite through direcway for approx 2 weeks. Not only did the 2000ms ping make any realtime gaming impossible, but the downtime caused by weather conditions both locally and remotely at some relay station was frustrating beyond words.
Also, you get a new dish which may or may not handle both internet and tv (we were told we needed two completely seperate dishes), and direct tv does not (or perhaps did not) come with any package deal to get a discount. We ended up paying full price for both 2-way sat and tv.
3) AOL Software Sucks
Need I say more? Nothing like adding bloat to the internet. If blah-er really wants to (aka needs to) stay with AOL, he can shell out $4.95/mo to keep his AOL account with a seperate provider.
Thats about it, I guess. Ill read through this thread again after blah-er posts more inane excuses and super-retardo babble-chat. _________________ There are 7 user(s) ignoring me right now. |

I feel for you. I live in an area owned by Verizon and so they don't need to put in any high speed internet access unless they want to. Sucks! BellSouth, or someone, who provides telephone services a mile away is offering DSL to residents. But, it's only because of Verizon we aren't able to get anything more than dialup. However, they guess it'll be 2010-2012 before they get their fiber op system in place. ... then that'll be available to us. _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling |

any way I can force some company (or at least someone know a company that will help me), that can push some cable out to me and about 7 other people that live around me?
Cerium, no I don't want to stay with AOL, I hate it and I don't even want a shell, because they suck (even though AOL is a time warner company, and they own road runner, I think ). Also I don't want to go with Directway, because:
1. It is always disconnecting when the weather is bad.
2. I don't feel like paying $80, when I can pay for brodband for around $50 in my area (brodband in my choice is better, making this deal worse the AOL dial up).
3. I have direct TV, and when I went to get support because we had two "55" channels for local, they kept switching back and forth while we were watching one, and it was quite annoying. We were charged for the support call, but the problem was never fixed.
BTW Newb, he's not flaming if he asked you nicely to stop doing somthing. On the other hand you just messaged a replay that was considered a flame. Please don't trash talk to people if they are being nice (Even though this is "Trash Talk").

Why dont you loose your bad attitude, newb? Its pissing me off, and im sure its pissing others off. You think you're something "special", yet, i see you doing NOTHING to help this community out. When was the last time you started going about giving people help? Hosting zones? You've done nothing beneficial towards the Subspace Community. The only thing ive seen you do is say crap like "You're an idiot.", Newb, the only Idiot in this forum, is YOU.
The first post was "just quit the internet all together", who made it? Newb. He instantly started the post on bad terms. Instead of him trying to help, what does he do? He starts saying shit like "just quit, fuck off, you're an idiot". Cant you use other words then that, newb? You're apperently sooo smart, act it. Its not your age that counts, newb. Its your maturity.
------
blah-er,
Satelite might be your only option if you cant get a cable company or dsl company to stretch a line out for you.
----
On a side note, just incase you didnt know, AOL is one big spyware program. On an old computer, (yes, even older then this one) I installed AOL, and it fucked it up hardcore. My suggestion is to uninstall AOL right now, and find another way around it.
Cant you also just use the standard dialer that comes with windows? You dont NEED the AOL software. Back when I had MSN, i could just dial up on a different computer without having to install the software. |

Confess. If you're going to moderate any area of this board, you need to be a bit more level-headed. Newb was pointing out a true statement (although rather harshly) and you counter with personal insults. Who has the "bad attitude"? _________________ This help is informational only.
