| In the Continuum client there is a menu that says "Web Links & News" and I know by default it puts the news.txt in there and labels it as "<news>". However some zones have weblinks. How exactly do they get a web link in there and set a specific name to it? An example is SSCE Hockey Zone where they labelled the link as "Center Ice". |

| In your zone description, put (Title)http://www.url.com. The (Title) is the part where it will show what you input such as 'Center Ice' (what HZ has). The URL proceeding that will just provide the link. |

To fix that problem next version of Continuum will look for DNS names in zone description and if they are present, client will use the name instead of IP address when connecting to server. When server moves, zone sysop can just change DNS record and players doesn't have to update anything.
Rules for names are following:
* If description contains ss://server.name and server.name resolves to current server IP address, client will use server.name in the future when connecting to zone
* If description contains http://www.domain.name and server.domain.name resolves to current server IP address, client will use server.domain.name
* otherwise IP address is used
So, I suggest to all zone sysops to start registering names now. server.zonedomain is best choise so you don't have to put ss:// to description if you already have web site in there

This is actually a trick I used on LAN servers. Setup an address on one of the many free dynamic addresses and use it like normal. On your router, if it is a smart one (go m0n0wall), you can override the dns entry to be the LAN IP address.
This was used at a LAN party once, where we had like 10 people playing over the LAN and 20 over the internet. Didn't require random custom zone entries.
Now that I go over it again, that knowledge of checking server.zonedomain automatically is something I don't remember. Useful tidbits of information always surface when I search through 8306 emails from some of Subspace's most important post-VIE people. |

| The ss:// isn't a registered protocol, so how would it work and what port does it use? Also, how can I check to see if it is actually resolving the IP of the DNS name? |

Read his post again, donk.
And if you don't know how to resolve DNS to an IP, you should be shot. _________________ Hyperspace Owner
