My friend is trying to install Mandrake Linux 10.1, He puts his install disk in, and restarts and boots from the disk, then hits enter to make the install starts. Then it goes to the next screen and start checking the computer for USB, and stuff like that. At this point, it stops and says CD-ROM is not found. He's using a DVD-ROM and this is the first time that his computer has ever given him an issue with his DVD-ROM. _________________ SSE Network Administrator |

Check your IDE cable running into it, it probably came loose. |

I highly doubt the connector could be loose but still load data from the drive.
Are you sure the drive is set to master?
Does the ISO you used to burn have a matching md5sum?
Try to check if the problem persists when no USB devices are connected. Otherwise I guess you'll have to seek for help at services related to the OS. |

Well, be bought the DVD's from a store, so you'd think that it'd work on the spot, right?
I'll have him check the USB connections as well. |

This is best posted in a Mandrake help forum. If they don't instantly know the answer, then they should point you in the right direction.
It also might be helpful to see if something like a Knoppix CD will boot. If it won't, then it's probably a hardware issue and not a Mandrake specific error. _________________ Hyperspace Owner
