Yankee got the axe, Rogue Trader has been restored to a backup from November 2001 (thats the only backup that Yankee made... so sad), and we few survivors are trying desperately to ressurrect the zone for the good glory that it once was!

Even if you don't care, please pass this message on to someone who might! We are trying to save one of the most fun games this side of Doom!

I'm doing everything I can to keep a good game alive & kicking, surely those of you who survived SS's p2p times can attest to the difficulty & dedication... if they haven't all been slain already

SubSpace was a box release. Server+Client were both released. However for some reason most players rejected the $30 one-time fee, which is pretty ironic that years later Infantry & Cosmic Rift beta testers did the samething with a Station Pass monthly fee.

I'm not sure what to do with Cosmic Rift. If you want to have a grassroots campaign the best idea is to play with friends or make friends who play in the same zone. If you can get 10-15 players enjoying themselves on a daily basis, then you will probably generate interest. I'm not sure what the threshhold is for CR or Infantry, but SubSpace zones usually generate self-interest at around 8 players (or so they did several years ago). If you can have people actively playing & not sitting in spec, then you should be able to sustainably develop a zone's population again.

This is harder to do in practice, then in thought from personal experience. Most players are selfish when it comes down to sitting in an empty zone.

I've got the bane of all my IRL friends being from either the theater circles I run in or the metal circles, and none of them really like gaming & the few who do go for the fancy graphic no gameplay FPS garbage games

Trying to convert my old net friends back to it, had a few successes Just gotta keep trying though, 8 players is fun, but RT is at its best between 20 and 50 IMO (at least, when its not seeing 150 like in pre p2p)

I can name over 10 reasons why Continuum is better than Cosmic Rift.

Edit:
1. It's free. Not crappy P2P
2. Settings can be changed at any time on the spur of the moment.
3. ASSS
4. You can customize your own server on SubBill.
5. There are far more zones/servers for Continuum.
6. Continuum is more squad orientated (Just look at TW).
7. Players can make their own maps and settings and graphics for arenas.
8. Shipsets are different based on zones and arenas.
9. LVZ to change from the default graphics and sounds.
10. Customizable options from the client itself (IE show ship thrusters)
11. Larger population on Continuum.
12. No "LaunchPad" required for Continuum.

RT is a progressive RPG-esque zone where you can custom build your ship the way you like it and play the role of bounty hunter, pirate, protecter, raider, or anything else you want to (we have several duelists who just come in, duel a bit, and leave).

The ongoing FFAs are intense and wild, the trash talk 1st rate, and when we get a good group of people in there the quality of the piloting is frighteningly incredible.

Also, what does CR have that SS doesn't? We have angles

You know, I'd think that coming from where SS had been, you would have a little more compassion and respect for someone who truely enjoys a game and is trying to keep it alive by bringing back people who loved it when it was free.

RT didn't die because of P2P, it was seriously wounded yes but it didn't die, it died because the developer made some utterly stupid and useless changes to the zone that literally, made it go from about 30-50 people a day to 3-5 in the span of about 2-3 days.

I'd expect "CR SUCKS!" and "Its DEAD so stfu!" from the Infantry newbies, but not from SSers, guess I thought too highly of you all these years.

Please look at your own signature as to why I'm "talking back" to you, and like your momma said, if you don't have anything nice to say...

And FYI, I'm posting here because some SSers said this would be the place to post about it and then wished me luck. Just a little background info for you to munch on.

Moving on! And we're walking, RT was restored to a November 2001 backup as a starting bed for the updates that Joe wants to make, ships, stats, top 100 - everything! Had 16 in there yesterday and I've been contacted by at least 3 people who want to bring back some more of their oldschooler friends, come join the fun!
