I have a chatnet client half-written in C++ that I abondoned long ago in light of schoolwork. However, since I have a little tiny bit of time off, I'd like to try finishing it in these 5 Thanksgiving days. So, here's my question.
Right now, I'm storing my player structs in a linked list almost completely ripped off MERVBot. However, I was re-familiarizing myself with the code and I thought "now what if I just make my player Listbox the playerlist, with lParams pointing to the player structs?".
Would this be bad practice? Or just a hassle? Or good?
Thanks. _________________ This help is informational only. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content. User assumes all risk of use. Cyan~Fire assumes no responsibility for any loss or delay resulting from such use.

Bad. Separate data from user interface. _________________ 4,691 irradiated haggis! |

I might be chaning to Linux... but, it doesn't have as many capabilities as Windows XP. Windows 98SE is far better... but I mean, XP is advanced and better... more holes etc in it...

...and you're basing this on what, exactly? Having never used Linux before?
Don't be a propoganda victim, mayne. The future of software is free and open source. Know why? Because no company can compete with millions of programmers worldwide uniting because they're tired of paying $500 for a program. |

Yeah; but what does that mean to the CS majors who need to have good paying jobs to survive in the world.. when companies have to compete against open-source AND piracy.. :-/ _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling |

It means that they have to find a new economic strategy.
This means finding a job where either: Piracy means nothing and you can release your code open source and still make a profit. Device drivers are an excellent example of this. The software is totally useless without the hardware that the company sells.
The another option is to code for large corperations and remove piracy from the equation.
Other options include defence contracting and embedded system programming.
There will always be a place in the world for programmers, but the era of the paid application developer is coming to an end. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

Exactly. Hardware OR...just don't charge $500 to use your program. Offer a decent trial and make it a small amount (like less than $5 or something) to get the full package. |

98SE good? what?! 98SE is up there as possibly one of the worst operating systems ever, along with ME and OS9. _________________

You're just saying that because it's cheaper. Cheaper just means older, not better. |

My friend released a program for 10$, which disables itself after 30 days. People made a freaking crack for it; rather than pay the 10$. You're telling me not to charge 500$... pft. I do disagree, software that costs 200$-2000$ is a bit much... but many of the companies give student discounts for a full product; take advantange of it. I will!
Maple which is a big math suite is 2k$ normal; and 100 something as a student. I am definately going to buy it before I graduate . I did the same thing for my Macromedia MX Studio..
Journeyed.com etc. |

Well personally I'd make it something nearly irresistably cheap, like one or two dollars.
Software that disables is another story, anyways. It's innately gay. |

The point is that application developers are a dying breed.
Adapt or die. Resistance is futile. |

Well considering most schools don't teach how to create, let alone teach C++ ASM etc, drivers for hardware, etc. Then probably in trouble. |

LOL. I wanted to take it but my advisor sighed upon it; and kept talking me into these other classes like networking, software design, ya know.. "other" areas...
I ended up lets see, taking the software design and programming language; upto 18 credits... Thought about taking the C++ regardless, but its a web course etc etc. |
