Some weaks ago I tried to enter a zone called "T3 The Gauntlet" or so. It said I was banned till year 2016. But I never entered the zone before. How is that possible? |

Your reputation preceded you, or you have the same IP/MACID as a previously banned offender. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

OK... But since the zone doesn't matter (there is TW, DSB, 17th - and they are all much better than T3)... Just wanted to know how it's possible to be a new user but already banned. So machineID can be the same at different computer systems? (it's said to be the harddrive serial number) |

You aren't a new user to any previously unentered zone. Thats what BanG is for.
And IP is far more likely than MACID, but it's possible that a banned person hacked his SN to what you have in an attempt to bypass the ban. |

OK, thanks for your information. But whatsoever I won't email T3 because I'm not interested in the zone. Just wanted to know how it's possible.
Yes I know. Multiple IPs are possible. I had a DNS some time ago and looked at "mydnsname.net" and I was redirected to another one's site. |

Sadly, its common sometimes how bans work. They could have banned locally a whole subnet (ie: ISP), which you could fall under. Or, more likely, the banned person could have the same MachineID as you. The MachineID is sort of created by Windows, but a problem is that not all the sources it gets for this ID (I'm not sure what sources it attempts to read) are 100% random.
You could think of it like this. Your MAC for your network card should be unique, but sometimes hardware manufactures forget this, and have at times shipped out thousands of network cards all with the same MAC. |

This means it's stored somewhere in the memory and there is a way to change it. |

Doesn't *mean* it's stored in memory, but yes, it's possible to change. |

Its actually stored as a registry value, don't remember where exactly. My CEBot used to read that value in and use that as it's MachineID. If it couldn't find one, just did rand() and whatever that returned, used that. |

Was banned local for being distruptive to zone proceeded to cross zone harass staff after repeated requests to stop (7 day net per GS guidelines)
|
According to that you also got netbanned for a week _________________

So why is there a 5000 day ban, if there is a 7 day net ban ? lol _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling |

May I also sneak in here and say, SSC has a tendecy (billing) to have that message appear for subchat, hence the VIP.txt/BanFree-ing the accounts. |

There's an easy task for Qndre, trying to unban yourself, see if you can do it. Maybe Local 5000? and netbanned 7 days?

So I'll change my name. That's weird, the name was already banned in T3? So why wasn't it in-use then? Who uses such a strange name as Qndre? |

Yes! Look at the date! It says 2003-01-09 - I didn't ever access T3 server. So it's the account and there is in fact someone which chose name 'Qndre'.

*confused* 'Qndre' sucks as a nick! Who takes it if he doesn't have to (except me)? |

You obviously haven't grasped what I said about the SSC banning system.

Read my post again. Then read the last three or four posts, and read my post again.
Maybe you will understand then. |

OK, servers can access billing information from other servers, but why should they ban me in T3? If I haven't ever played in the zone, I can't have broken the rules of that zone, can I? Being banned because of "shared" banning information from another zone is also implausible because I'm not banned in any other zone. *don't understand anyway* |

Some zone ops have been known to ban or even netban for things outside of the zone itself. So it's possible that you pissed someone off in a forum (it's even likely, given that it's you) and they decided to ban you (zone ops can do whatever they want). Netbanning in this situation is against SSC policy though. However, from the ban comments, I would say you or someone logging in with your name/pw DID do those things. _________________ 4,691 irradiated haggis! |

How can the ban's "banned data" be exactly the same as what you currently use if it was a different user?
You didn't get caught in someone else's ban, this ban was supposed to catch only you, it did and it does now.
You did play in T3G, it wasn't someone else with the name "Qndre". |

I didn't. But thanks for your help. I won't change my nick and join the zone because there are hundredths of other zones out there which don't require such a nick change. |
