Don't make your map so it is possible for it to get stuck.

If your a sysop, you can change a ship's pickup radius for the ball to be huge, and then *warpto near it, and you should pick it up fine, then *warpto back to the middle. Or you can hope to get a bot to work to pick it up (very hard unless you know what your doing).
