Im sure this has come up many times over the past, but i didnt see any recent posts.
I have created a zone (3 days ago) that on it's first day avg'd about 5 players almost all day long. The second day it avg'd about 6 - 7 players. almost all day... and the third day has only just begun, but in the early morning it was avg'n about 5 players.
This is still in beta stages!! I plan to put in a whole new set of gfx/sounds and .lvz mods within the next week that will make the zone quite pretty and such. I hate running my own billing and I also hate the fact that people get the msg saying its not connected to the main biller. I'm sure it disturbs and turns players away.
I want to know how to get linked to SSC and what the requirements are.
Here's what i have as of this point and time.
1. Avg of about 7 players excluding bot. (judging by
the initial popularity from only existing 2 and 1/2 days
it can only improve)
2. Dedicated 10mbit hosting connection.
3. A semi-reliable staff... (working on this one)
4. Unique tiles, gfx, shipsets and gameplay. No copies.
5. Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting too...
If there's anything else.. be sure to tell me and ill get on it.
Thanks
Also, after i establish a reliable contact, ill share the name of the zone and my identity. Until then i'd prefer to remain anonymous to avoid words and acts of immature people. Anyone who has ever ran a zone or zones, knows what I'm talking about. I'd prefer not to make a big deal out of the zone until it has made a name for itself by llinkage with SSC. Although most the people on the forum here seem to be pretty nice. |

we are nice tell us, heh
anyways
I don't exactly remember all the silly requirements SSC has, but I know one is that it can't be too similar to a zone already existing on the SSC biller. Another is supposedly that it get at least 30 population a day or something like that.
These requirements are obviously not followed precisely. Some SSC billing slots are given to people just because they are friendly with a billing op. Some are given to people just because they are friendly with the op of a server that has been allotted several SSC billing slots to give to whom they choose.
What I recommend is getting hosted on SSI which has its own SSC slots that you could upgrade to eventually assuming another zone fails or the admin (1ststrike) gets happy or something. - www.ssihosting.com
You could also try SFSS - I'm not sure if the SSC slots are actually theirs or were just given personally to the owners of the zones on their server, but they are a rather dedicated host that has been up for quite a while. - www.sfss.org
Apart from slowly building population and getting the interest of people with power, if you happen to be really good friends with some powerful people, ask them for a favor |

Akai,
Yep.. sounds like the typical kiss-ass world to me.. i do know a few sysops of some SSC zones... but I hate bugging my friends. 30 users is an awful lot for a server thats NOT on SSC billing. Most people who come in zones that arent on SSC just asume that its a newbie zone and they act like dumbasses which gives the atmosphere a bad smell. As much as I hate to say it, its a stereotypical bullshit idea... but its what almost everyone seems to follow.
Who am i? well lets just say you spoke to me when i was busy as hell and being swamped by msgs from players and i spoke a few words to ya and pretty much blew ya off. I had no other choice. Now.. im sure you can figure out who I am and what zone.. but i'd appreciate ya keeping it to yourself for now. I'm not ready to go 100% public.. i cant handle all the work.

I'm not paying anything. .. luckily i have a flexable boss who let me put up a SS server on his co-located win2k machine ;p Luck.. definately luck... Bad thing is.. sometimes he runs a lot of things on the server and it causes some cpu lag now and again.. have to find a way around this..
You can get a 10mbi just about anywhere these days... just call up the local broadband providers.. they'll point you in the right direction.... somewhat...
Thanks again,
Steve |
