But I see the point you're trying to make and that is that Xal's action was far worse than anything you've ever done. But thinking of the effect on the company, it was about equal to you downloading one picture of a naked girl in your life on your parents' connection.

stealing can be morally okay.

for example, stealing food from, say, some company's large forgotten foodstores (that would have otherwise rotted) to feed a starving family.

i'm not saying (yet) that SSCX's hosting is an analogous case. nor am I going to get into an argument about whether or not there are any fundamental ethical principles. (because if there were, it would probably be morally wrong to make death threats at prime, or whomever it is you think possesses that screen name)

i'm just saying that prime didn't act out of any moral duty, to uphold anti-theft law or something like that. prime acted out of spite. or recklessness. or selfishness. or all three, who can be certain?

i'm not angry with prime. i actually thought he had an acute perspective on some fundamental aspects of powerball. hell, i even thought he could add something to the game.

i'm just disappointed.

It indeed is very sad that SSCX was brought down, but I see fault at both sides. The guy working at the hosting company shouldn't have stole the bandwidth for a game such as subspace. Yes it made a good 500 people happy, but they would've been able to live without it. If you have internet access at home it would mean you don't have to worry about food. The 800-2200 dollars could've been spent better. Prime is at fault for being an asshole. From what I can see Prime wanted to be in a position of power the xanthier fellow (or whatever you may call him) didn't allow it so he blackmailed him. This whole situation is really retarded, and sad.

In short:
Stealing is bad, stealing to give 500 people in first world countries who could probably live without it is really sad. Blackmailing someone in a game, and costing him his job just for a position of power in a 2d spaceship is just faggish. In other words Prime should be harassed into insanity, and Xan brought this all upon himself.

First of all, on the account of stealing bandwidth: Alex> Xal was upfront to his bosses about it 34 years ago, changed hands since then.

Next, on the account of SSX made 500 people happy, wrong, it made thousands happy.
True that population overall dropped steeply in the past years, but it still counts for all the hits it had for all the years it had them.
Also, while a zone may sport 50, 100 or 500 players at once, it doesn't mean they're the same people.
People log off, people log in, different people play at different time zones.
At its prime, SSX catred to around 20,000 people, and I'm not exagurating.
And even nowdays it served a good thousand or few.
So if prime is turned into a most wanted in canada I won't be suprised one bit.
