I seem to recall people who hadn't a clue about blockip.txt and permission mode in sysop positions heading many a zone which wheped with terror in face of their incompetence, yes.

I certaintly remember those days.

Grav seems to have given himself some kind of brain washing. Everything before Continuum was perfect and great, and everything after is a knockoff of something that existed in the VIE days. There was never a reason to create Continuum, because VIE would have lasted forever, or some such BS. Oh, and everyone that thinks differently is a n00b and a moron.

Yes, wept, thank you muskrat, I knew I screwed up big time there but was in a rush and felt too lazy to find out the proper spelling.

It was wide-spread, however, only due to the ignorance of those who were put in place to make halt of such attempts to begin with.

EG had no problem and adapted quickly.
Gemini Dream, who you all love to hate, also had the wit to adjust his zones to the new situation and put a stop to the cheating.

The tools were always there, simply, too many had no idea of them or how to make proper use of them.

Plans are in place to get SSCX back to the west coast. Were still waiting to see what priit says.

The server is up, named New SSCX Test Server.

EG adapted by going permission only. I call that gay. I dislike signing up for things. Of course banning whole subnets wasn't fun either.

Retire the X already. Call it W for West side and get the republican seal of approval at the sametime.

I don't recall having to sign up for anything; Are you perhaps confusing with WLI/USD?
At EG the permission mode was set to use to allow entry but use permit.txt for playing, so you were locked in spec upon joining.
The moderators were there, plenty of them at that, and you simply asked to join, if you weren't on the black list, you were Okayed in (added you to the permit.txt, so you can enter the game automaticaly).
Via *info it was relatively easy to tell who's who.

People still get cought up in bans today.
You have the same capability to ban any specific IP or 'specific' IP range as you wish today that you had back then.
The 'only' (most prominent feature?) difference BanG brings is that it automates the process for you and links up different IPs/Aliases etc. information on its own logic as well as allowing mods and smods to affect IP bans of the sort while restricting their IP-ban ranges to predefinied limits.

Well, it might be sentimental?
Xalimar didn't want W becuse it sounded 'gay' to him, so he kept it SSX/SSCX throughout the years.
I guess now it can change?

I guess it was my mistake. I never really played EG because I thought it was a hassle getting in. I thought I remember trying to play once, i don't know why, and not being able to enter the zone because of "permission only". It was probably just a fluke at sometime and I just never tried again until BanG came out.

Probably the Pro League server, it was this way for quite some long time actualy, until they decided to open it up to the general public (squads were moaning about not having enough people online at same time to conduct pracs).

During the twister storms, USD/WLI also closed off like this, IIRC.
There were a few others as well.
