ok you must have missed something somewhere.
but here's the quick way:

  1. Grab the lvz toolkit
  2. Download Bob Dole.. Bob Dole... Bob Dole...... bob dole.... bob... dole....'s LIE. click here
  3. Make a folder for everything you want to go in the lvz. do this to keep everything organised.
  4. Put everything you want in the folder i.e. sounds, grapics etc.
  5. Open LIE and click on options. In the box the comes up click on the ... button and find buildlevel.exe. tick try to collect files and push ok
  6. Under File Selection, click OutFile text box and type in the name of the lvz file e.g. main.lvz
  7. Click on the Add button and find the folder with the files and go in to it and select all the files and push open button.
  8. Save the ini file and hit the compile button, the lvz file will be created.
  9. Find where the lvz was created and copy it to the same place you have your server folder (subgame.exe, server.cfg etc.)
  10. Open the server.cfg anyway you please, in the game or in notepad and go down to the [Misc]/Misc section and under LevelFiles= write next to it what you called the lvz e.g. LevelFiles=main.lvz

if u are still confused i'll make a better guide with pictures and a tad more detail

first off - server.ini is for your server, it has nothing to do with .lvz files
typically you create new text files and save them as .ini for .lvz

now, tell us what it is you want to accomplish...
(replace graphics, sounds - add graphics on map or screen - add sounds)
...and someone will explain it to you

(fyi you can't get LIE from fuzz's link because the host for the .zip is down sa_tongue.gif)

"levelfiles=" is a setting that should go in a .cfg file, NOT an .ini file

if you were adding things to server.ini, undo it all sa_tongue.gif

server.cfg is probably what you want to add to

for ships.bm2, I personally wouldn't even use a .lvz file (though you will still need to alter "levelfiles=")

do the following:

make sure "ships.bm2" is in your Continuum directory
go into your zone (you need to have sysop powers) and type "*putfile ships.bm2"

now type "*getfile server.cfg" - this file will download to your Continuum directory

open it with a text editor (like notepad) and set "Levelfiles=ships.bm2"
it should be in the [Misc] section, but if you cannot find it, just type it in

save your changes and type "*putfile server.cfg" in-game

now re-enter your zone (or public arena) and you should download and see your warcraft ships

and did i once say edit the server.ini?!?!? hell no!
if u want a more detailed guide, i can make one! all u need to do is just ask!

in the server.cfg file it should be under
Code: Show/Hide
[Misc]
LevelFiles= *the name of the files or lvz*
and

this is if the server is NOT on your computer ie. its being hosted by someone like NTC, SSC* etc

actually, that method works no matter where your zone is as long as you have sysop powers (as I said)

but um...thanks for repeating everything I said sa_tongue.gif

yes it is possible

find an appropriate image and I (or someone else) will explain the process to you

yes, you can make a copy of any .lvl file and rename the file extension to .bmp - open it in an image editing program and do whatever you like (including pasting images onto it) - however for big pictures it is much easier to place them using .lvz - post again if you want to learn how to do this - be specific in what it is you want to accomplish

if u open a lvl in paint, it buggers the lvl contents. i havent tryed opening it in Paint shop Pro yet. A tileset's dimensions is 304 pixels by 160 pixels then every 16 by 16 pixels is a tile. i attached the example

new tile set.

Yo, this is a really old thread, but...

Whenever I create the .lvz file with Buildlevel.exe, it doesnt save it as a .lvz file. I looked at its Properties and it says it is a "File". Thats all it says. So, can you tell me whats up with this?

Heres what I did:

Opened LIE2 and selected the picture I wanted, and selected the compiler.

Did everything in LIE2 and saved then compiled it. This created a .cfg file, and a "File" file.
---
So.... problem?

Solved one problem, and another came up.

I made the .lvz file, and I went in the game and hit Esc+C and went to Misc and put in under Level Files:

LevelFiles zerostart.lvz

I then saved and recycled the zone. I reentered and nothing happened.
So then I edited the server.cfg file, adding LevelFiles to the [Misc] section. I then typed the filename, saved, uploaded, recycled, and quit. I reentered and the picture still wasnt there (its a picture that is supposed to float for 10 seconds).

I then thought that maybe I wasnt adding everything I needed. So I added this (from the zerostart.cfg file):

Quote:
OutFile=zerostart.lvz

File=zerobaseowned.bmp

[objectimages]
IMAGE0=zerobaseowned.bmp,1,1,1000

[mapobjects]
513,513,IMAGE0,BelowAll,EnterZone,10,2789

[screenobjects]
513,513,IMAGE0,TopMost,EnterZone,10,2789
513,513,IMAGE0,BelowAll,EnterZone,10,2789

Uploaded, nothing happened.
-------

Possible theories:
.lvz file. I didnt make it correctly? I dont know what the settings should be. I set the X, Y coordinates to 512, 512 cuz thats where the safety is. I put the picture to be "Topmost" once, uploaded, nothing happend. I then set it to "BelowAll" and still nothing had changed. (BTW I recompiled it each time).

Suggestions?
